Alvin Goldberg Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 19, 2012.

Alvin Richard Goldberg, born on November 11, 1924, in Youngstown, Ohio and passed away on Tuesday, December 18, 2012. Alvin recently celebrated his 88th birthday.

Alvin was the oldest of five brothers. He married his wife Evelyn in 1946, and both traveled the world together. He devoted himself and cared for Evelyn full time during the last years of her life.

The couple moved to California in 1946, after Alvin served our country in the United States Navy from 1943 to 1946, during World War II. Thereafter, he opened one of the most successful produce brokerage business in the Central Valley. Since 1965, he achieved the highest rating in the produce industry.

Alvin was a member of Scottish Rite, Masons and a Shriner. He was a lifetime member of Belmont Country Club and the Indian Wells Country Club where he and Evelyn would spend the winter months together. He was a member of Temple Beth Israel, B'Nai Brith, and many other organizations that he graciously contributed to. While golfing was his passion, family meant everything to him.

Alvin is preceded in death by his wife Evelyn.

Alvin is survived by his daughter, Barbara Michner and her husband Stan, of Visalia; his son, Rennie Goldberg of Fresno; his four grandchildren who he adored, Melissa Morgan and her husband Michael, Kimberly Eubank and her husband Nick, and Chad and Blakely Goldberg. Alvin was then blessed with two great-grandchildren, Savannah Morgan and Jack Eubank.

A Funeral Service will be held at Lisle Funeral Home on Friday, December 21, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. followed by Interment at Beth Israel Cemetery. A reception to follow at a location to be announced.

Remembrances may be sent to Temple Beth Israel, 6622 N. Maroa Ave., Fresno, Ca. 93704; or to the donor's favorite charity.

Alvin was one of the 'class' produce brokers in the business. He was a man of complete integrity and still had lots of fun in the business.

Alvin and his brother Jerry were uniquely different personalities, yet both served the industry at a time when wholesale markets held a stronger position than they do today in the strongly retail oriented business that presides today.

Alvin was a great storyteller, and his stories usually had a unique point to make, and always with good humor.

Alvin was a good man. He will be missed.

Cheers,
