Ameen Akel Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 1, 2011.

Ameen passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, October 28, 2011.

Ameen was born in Lebanon in 1907. At the age of 15, together with his eldest brother, he took charge of distributing the overland mail throughout the Middle East: from Beirut to as far as Damascus, Baghdad, Tehran, Amman, and Jerusalem.

While he made his living as a building contractor and an entrepreneur, his passions-besides his family-included winemaking at his winery, farming, and gardening. As a member of the Greek Orthodox Church, the Antiochian Patriarchate recognized him as an Archon of the Church for his many philanthropic deeds.

He immigrated to the United States in 1981, and settled with his family in Clovis, CA. He joined Saint George Greek Orthodox Church in Fresno, CA where he was recognized as the Father of the Year in 2005.

Ameen is survived by Nadia, his wife of 67 years; his four sons, George and his wife Dina, and their children Nadia and Anita; Elia, his wife Mireille, and their children Ameen and Victor; Michel, his wife Mona, and their children Madona and Giorgio; and Tony.

Donations may be sent to St. George Greek Orthodox Church.

Allah yo'otah hal gherbeh!!!
Recevez nos sincères condolèances
Elie, Joe et Nicole Abdul-Massih .
