Andrew Jackson Watkins, III, age 68, of Wilmington, died on Saturday, November 26, 2016 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice in Wilmington.
He was born October 12, 1948 to Andrew Jackson Watkins, Jr. and Rosa Lea Watkins, who both preceded him in death. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Watkins.
Mr. Watkins was a general contractor and had previously retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers with 25 years of service.
He is survived by a daughter: Kristen Fitzgerald and her husband, Jason of Raleigh, NC; a son: Andrew J. "A.J." Watkins, IV of Wilmington, NC; a sister, June Brown of Carolina Beach, his brothers: Wayne Watkins and his wife, Helen of Rocky Point, NC, Dale Watkins and his wife, Karen of Wallace, NC, and Tex Watkins and his wife, Brenda of Rocky Point, NC, a granddaughter: Jackson Watkins and his grandsons: Hudson Fitzgerald and Sawyer Fitzgerald.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 2, 2016 at Scott's Hill Baptist Church. The Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Phil Ortego officiating. Burial will follow at Oleander Memorial Gardens.
In Lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to Scott's Hill Baptist Church, 185 Scott's Hill Loop Road, Wilmington, NC 28411 or Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401

Words can not express the gratitude we feel for all of the love and support you have shown our family over the past couple of weeks. We are truly blessed to have you all in our lives. Thank you for being here to celebrate the life of our father, brother, grandfather, and friend.
We would like to extend a special thank you to Lower Cape Fear Hospice and the Scotts Hill Baptist Church community for the generosity, prayers, and kindness you have shown our family this week and over the years. It has truly been remarkable.
