Ann B. Sterrett, 96, went home to be with her heavenly Father on October 28, 2017 in Newport News, Virginia. A native of Rockbridge County, Virginia, she lived in Hampton/Newport News for 70 years. Ann was a member of Wythe Presbyterian Church.
Ann was a devoted mother, wife, and friend, and will dearly be missed by all. She and her husband, Bob Sterrett, worked to obtain and founded a community based small group home with 5 residents including her daughter with care provided by the Community Services Board. Over the years she especially enjoyed horseback riding, swimming, Bingo, and participating in special activities with her precious daughter Jean.
She is preceded in death by her husband, James R. Sterrett; daughter, Jean Marie Sterrett; and brother, Fred A. Berry. Surviving members of her family include her daughter, MaryAnn Sterrett-Russell and husband, Gerald Russell of Houston, Texas; loving caring relatives, Susan Copenhaver of Grafton, Virginia, Marcie Schoonmaker of Centreville, Virginia, Connie Saulnier of Leesburg, Virginia, Susan Rutkoski of Richmond, Virginia, and Doug Sterrett of Boone, North Carolina; and her Texas family.
A service of remembrance will be conducted at Wythe Presbyterian Church, 151 Robinson Road, Hampton, Virginia 23661 on Monday, December 4, 2017 at 2:00 PM, with Rev. Clint Mitchell presiding. The family will receive friends following the service. The burial will take place at a later date in Timber Ridge Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Rockbridge County, Virginia.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to Wythe Presbyterian Church, 151 Robinson Road, Hampton, Virginia 23661 and/or Community Service Board, 300 Medical Drive, Hampton, Virginia 23666.
