Ann Minkovich Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 9, 2017.

Ann Nedoszyka Minkovic

Funeral services for Ann Nedoszyka Minkovich will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Killeen.
Ms. Minkovich died Sept. 8, 2017, surrounded by her family at her daughter's home in Killeen. She was born Feb. 11, 1927, in Tarnopol, Poland.
Ann's life began on a farm in Poland with her mother, father and brother raising vegetables and chickens. In 1941, Ann was separated from her family during the German occupation of her home parish. Being raised Catholic, she was rescued by nuns and worked in a convent in Austria.
As an adult, she met a young military man, Nicholas Minkovich, and was married in 1950 for 25 years. They had a small business together in San Antonio, a local driving range with putting greens. They were divorced in 1975.
Once in Killeen, she began working at Fort Hood snack bars for the Army and Air Force Exchange Service. She retired with AAFES after 24 years of service. She worked for a few years with Killeen ISD as a cafeteria worker at Rancier Middle School and then went to work at the Fort Hood commissary as a bagger.
Shifting jobs she began her life as "The Chicken Lady," stocking chickens and hams at the commissary until she retired at the age of 80. Finally "retired," she raised chickens and sold the eggs by the roadside along Stagecoach Road and Stan Schlueter Loop with jarred honey for a few years. She also volunteered at Saegert Elementary School.
Her accolades include Service Award for Devoted Service from AAFES, Proficiency Award from AAFES, 1,000 Hour Sick Leave Club from AAFES, and Certificate of Achievement for Best Behavior with Saegert Elementary School first-grade class 2010.
Ms. Minkovich was preceded in death by a grandson, Aaron Morrow, and her parents and brother.
She is survived by her daughters, Jana Nicholas and her husband Domenico Piscioneri, JoAnn Purser and her husband Gary Jr., and Janice Noetzel; her grandchildren, Cristina Purser-King and her husband Dustin, Benjamin Purser, Joshua Gunner Noetzel, and Riley Jo Noetzel. She has two great grandchildren, Jackson King and Catherine King.
Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Killeen, which is in charge of arrangements.
