Ann Guthrie Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 4, 2012.

Mary Anna Ann Guthrie, 86, of Lubbock died on November 4, 2012 at home surrounded with love by children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday, November 8, 2012 in the Abby Chapel of Resthaven Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Resthaven Funeral home. Please join us in celebrating Ann's life by visiting her memorial at www.resthavenlubbock.com. Mrs. Guthrie was born on November 21, 1925 to M.C. and Pauline Aycock in El Dorado, Texas. The Aycock family relocated to Moody, Texas where she met and married the love of her life on December 24, 1942. While her husband was off fighting in the Pacific during WWII, she had the job of working to support a newborn daughter as well as supporting the war efforts here at home. After the war, they continued to build a life and family. Moving to Lubbock from Jacksonville in 1962 they would plant roots for what would become an incredible life filled with memories full of friends and family. Mrs. Guthrie always put family first; family was the essence of her being. She was always there for each and every one of us and we are all better for it. We will miss her immensely. Mrs. Guthrie was preceded in death by her husband and soul mate, O.C. Guthrie; one daughter, Jeannie Guthrie Fulton; and one brother, William Aycock. She leaves behind her son, Steve Guthrie of El Paso; daughters, Paula Schigut of Midland and Sharla Doyle of Corona, Calif.; brothers, Clarence and Weldon Aycock of Troy; sister, Francis Graham, also of Troy; and sister, Eldine of Costa Mesa, Calif. She also leaves behind 15 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Guthrie was an amazing lady whom cherished her family as her most prized possessions. She was the rock and foundation of our family and while we grieve for our loss, we are comforted with the knowledge that she is no longer suffering with the pains of this world and is in a far better place with the love of her life together they will celebrate 70 years of love and commitment this December. Godspeed Mimi, we will love you forever. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be given to your local Hospice Care.
