Anne Ward Cork, 84, wife of Robert Landen Cork, departed this Christian life on Nov. 3, 2013 at South Georgia Medical Center. She was born to the union of Carlysle M. Ward and Catherine Spense Ward in Glynn County, Ga. on Dec. 23, 1928 where she was reared until her marriage to Robert C. Cork on Oct. 11, 1951. She was predeceased by one brother, Carlysle Ward, and a sister, DN. Mary Curry Ward, M.D. and her oldest son, Robert L. Cork, Jr. She graduated from Glynn Academy, one of the few public schools of Georgia that went through 12 grades at that time. Anne Ward Cork, 84, wife of Robert Landen Cork, departed this Christian life on Nov. 3, 2013 at South Georgia Medical Center. She was born to the union of Carlysle M. Ward and Catherine Spense Ward in Glynn County, Ga. on Dec. 23, 1928 where she was reared until her marriage to Robert C. Cork on Oct. 11, 1951. She was predeceased by one brother, Carlysle Ward, and a sister, DN. Mary Curry Ward, M.D. and her oldest son, Robert L. Cork, Jr.

She graduated from Glynn Academy, one of the few public schools of Georgia that went through 12 grades at that time. She later graduated at University of Georgia with a degree in Art Education under the tuetlage of Dr. Lamar Dodd and in the meantime, she attended Parsons School of Design in New York City for one year. Later on, she taught at Southwest KeKalb High for two years in 12th grade English and Clyattville High in 12th grade English. She received two master's degrees at Valdosta State College in 1981. She was president of Gen. Jackson Chapter of Daughters of American Revolution, President of Valdosta Chapter of United Daughters of the Confederacy and Vice President of Daughters of American Colonies in charge of the South East. She was a Georgia State Regent for the Magna Charter Dames and Barons. She taught adult and teenage Sunday School classes at First United Methodist Church and Wesley Southern Methodist Church when it existed. She worked a long time for her husband and practically everyone in Lowndes County loved her.

Anne is survived by her husband, Robert L. Cork of Valdosta; sons, Patrick C. Cork of Valdosta, Travis W. Cork of Ft. Knox, Ky.; daughter and son-in-law, Leah Cork Hopkins and Lee Hopkins Jr. of St. Simons, Ga.; sister and brother-in-law, Susan Ward Hartman and Jack Hartman; three grandchildren, Sophia Catherine Cork of Valdosta, Catherine Hopkins and Lee Hopkins III, both of St. Simons, Ga.; one great-grandchild, Grace Hopkins of St. Simons, Ga.

Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, 2013 in Palmetto Cemetery, Brunswick, Ga. with the Rev. Charles Adams officiating. Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8, 2013 at First United Methodist Church chapel with Bob Moon officiating. - Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home, Brunswick, Ga. www.edomillerandsons.com
