Mrs. Tomlinson was born April 2, 1930 in Durham, NC. She was the youngest of five girls and graduated from Duke University with a degree in music.

In 1952, Anne married Carroll Finley Tomlinson of Durham before moving to Charlotte and raising their three children.
Anne was an active member of Christ Episcopal Church. She served two terms as Senior Warden of the Vestry. Anne was Director of Kitchen Services and enjoyed serving others. She participated in numerous outreach projects in the Charlotte community, including Habitat for Humanity, Men's Shelter of Charlotte, and Charlotte Family Housing. She was a delegate to the National Episcopal Diocesan Convention and was instrumental in the establishment of the Christ Church Foundation.

Anne Tomlinson served on the founding Board of Southminster Retirement Community. She was President of the Junior League of Charlotte and President of The Association of Junior Leagues International. She was a member of the Charlotte Debutante Club.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by her son, Carroll Finley Tomlinson, Jr. and four sisters.

Anne is survived by a son John Buchanan Tomlinson and his wife Lisa; a daughter Anne Tomlinson Ratcliffe and her husband Starke; and daughter-in-law, Gail Tomlinson. Her eleven grandchildren include Lee Tomlinson, Becca Tomlinson and her husband Chris Grocki, Ned Tomlinson and his wife Amanda, Elizabeth Tomlinson Boone and her husband Jacob, Buch Tomlinson, Tommy Tomlinson, Mary Helen Tomlinson, Anne Carroll Ratcliffe, Nancy Ratcliffe, Ashton Ratcliffe, Sallie Ratcliffe, and five great- grandchildren.

Anne's greatest loves were church, family, music, summers at Nags Head and a good day of fishing. She enjoyed gathering with friends for bridge and book club. Even though much of her life was spent surrounded by die-hard Tarheels, she remained a proud and loyal fan of the Duke Blue Devils.

A memorial service will be held at 3 pm on Monday, August 11 at Christ Church, 1412 Providence Rd. A reception at the church will follow the service.

Gifts can be made in her honor to Christ Episcopal Church or Charlotte Family Housing.
