Anthony "Tony" Edward Ruminer passed away on Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at home with family. Tony was born August 14, 1923, in Mount Vernon, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roscoe and Helena (Niemeier) Ruminer; wife, Eileen (Behme) Ruminer; and sisters, Angela Golterman, Venita Sweeney and Arlene Perkins.

Tony is survived by his sister, Louise Ruminer Noelle; children, Ann (Mark) McDonald, Jane Ruminer, Brad (Nancy) Ruminer, Kent (Geralyn) Ruminer and Linn (Chuck) Brown; grandchildren, Karra McDonnell, Nancy McDonald Ladd, David Ruckman, Lena Ruminer, Anna Ruminer, Elissa Ruminer, Jessie Ruminer, Mattia Ruminer and Connor Brown; great-grandchildren, Eve Bilderback, Ruth Ladd, Charlotte Ruckman and Dorothy McDonnell; and nieces and nephews.

Tony was raised on a farm and had a lifelong love of nature, animals, trees and birds. He was a long time member of the Indiana Bluebird Society and provided nesting boxes and habitat for bluebirds.

He was an electrician and substation construction supervisor at Vectren/SIGECO for 42 years and enjoyed 27 years of retirement.

He and his late wife, Eileen, were active members of St. Joseph Catholic Church (County) since 1948, they received the Simon Brute Society award, were members of the Carpenter society, and he was a volunteer at St. Vincent DePaul for most of his retirement.

Tony was a humble Christian man with great wisdom and he would be embarrassed that his children are saying these things about him. They think he was the greatest Dad in the world. He worked hard to provide a great life for his family and help his friends and neighbors. He always told his children that they were the pride and joy of his life and they always knew how much he loved them. By his quiet and consistent example he taught his children the importance of treating everyone with kindness, patience and understanding. He did not give them everything they asked for but instead gave them everything they needed and therefore gave them so much more in life.

Friends may visit from 2:00 to 8:00 PM on Sunday, March 17, 2013, at Alexander West Chapel, 2100 West Illinois Street, with a memorial service at 5:00 PM, and on Monday from 10:00 AM until service time at St. Joseph Catholic Church (County).

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Monday, March 18, 2013, at St. Joseph Catholic Church (County), 602 West St. Joseph Road, with Father Eugene Schroeder and Deacon Mark McDonald celebrating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Church Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Deaconess Hospice, 600 Mary Street, Evansville, IN 47747 or St. Vincent DePaul Food Pantry & Emergency Assistance, 809 North Lafayette Avenue, Evansville, IN 47711.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Deaconess Hospice, especially Lisa, Lori, Carolyn, Nancy and Tom, granddaughter Anna, and caregivers Karen, Sharon, Mary and Diane for the compassionate and gentle care they gave to our Dad. We also wish to thank Glenn, Joe, Rick, Rob, and Jim for their unselfish assistance whenever we called day or night.

Condolences may be made online at www.AlexanderWestChapel.com.
