Anthony Babb Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 15, 2013.

Anthony "Tony" Wayne Babb

Old Town-Anthony Wayne Babb, 53, passed away at his home in Great Works January 14, 2013 surrounded by his loving and dedicated family following a courageous battle with cancer. His family's tireless care allowed Tony to remain at his home until his death which meant a great deal to him. He was born January 26, 1959 in Old Town a son of Wayne and Helen (Smith ) Babb.

Tony was raised and educated in Old Town where he grew to become a fine man. Tony indeed had that "certain something" that made him a very special person to be around. Many people that knew him felt that he was the nicest person that they have ever met. He was selfless, always looking out for others first. Tony would literally give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. His cheerful and carefree outlook on life was contagious. Tony made everyone around him a better person for having known him. He was indeed a gift to all of us who were fortunate enough to know him. Tony had a deep love and understanding for nature, he loved to roam the woods and waters every chance he got, enjoying all that God had created. He had an extensive knowledge and collection of plants, which was a huge passion of his. He loved all children, especially, his own and his brother's daughters Amanda and Rebecca, and granddaughters Taylor and Emma. Tony loved to go camping , especially his favorite spot on Lousy Island in Chemo Pond, Bradley. He loved to hunt and fish, look for old bottles, read a good book, catch turtles, watch a good Western and hang out with his many friends and fine family. Tony quickly mastered all vocations he worked at in his life. As a young man he worked on a survey crew in the Jackman area as well as in the State of Georgia. He then became an accomplished meat cutter, working for a number of years in local wholesale shops. For the past 18 years, Tony has been an excellent baker at the University of Maine, Orono.

Tony is survived by his daughter Megan Babb of Old Town; his parents Wayne and Helen Babb of Orono; his big sister Tina Whitney of Howland; his little brother Ty Babb and his wife Lyn of Eddington; nephew Preston Jarvis of Bangor, nieces Amanda of Eddington, Rebecca of North Carolina; great nieces Taylor and Emma of Eddington; many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Friends may visit 2-4 and 7-9 PM Friday at the Birmingham Funeral Home 438 Main St Old Town where a funeral service will be conducted 1 PM Saturday. Following the service, Tony's remains will be cremated, with some ashes to be kept by family members and some to be spread by the winds over Lousy Island during a private ceremony held later in the spring.

Tony Babb lived and loved greatly and he will now forever be greatly loved and forever remembered by all of us that knew him on this Earth. Tony's greatest love, and his greatest lasting legacy began January 8, 1995 with the birth of his only child, Megan. All that Tony lived for, and all that he was about, is captured and now lives on in his beautiful daughter's eyes and in her spirit. Tony Babb has truly made an enormous positive impact on so many people, giving his life such a valuable lasting meaning. Thank you, Tony, for everything!

Tony, you're the nicest guy I know. You were always the bright spot in everyone's day, and I'll always smile when I think of you. I enjoyed our camping trips to Katahdin Iron Works, and wish I could catch half the fish you did!

Tony was always a kind and gentle person, he was a friend to everyone he met. I was lucky enough to have shared many hours with him fishing, camping, laughing, and just enjoying his wonderful personality. Rest in peace my friend.

I Met Tony When my father was the pastor of the Church his family was attending. We hit it off the first time we met. He would spend weeks at a time with our family at our camp in New Hampshire. Funny.. that is where He Discovered "bottle Digging" With Me.
We would rummage through our pockets to see how much money each of us had and if he was the only one to produce a dollar or two it would be" hey WE have three dollars. We went our seperate ways the last few years but he is and always will be counted as one of the best friends I have ever had. My heart breaks for his family as he leaves a large void with he absence. I thank God that his Grace reached Tony And we will see Him again. I suspect that he will want Brook Trout and Fiddle heads at the Marriage supper of the Lamb. I am sitting beside him! I will Sorely miss him until then. I am sorry for your loss.

Scott "Frenchie"

First of all to the unbelievable family of T Babb. 'Ty, Tina, Megan, and Mom & Dad' my very sincere condolences for the loss of your son, brother, and Dad. It was incredible the way you guys all pulled together to keep Tony home during his illness. I am fortunate & feel privileged to have known him for over 40 years. He is & always will be one of my best & closet friends. Through the years we would go without seeing eachother for awhile, but when we'd meet back up again it was like we were back in school again. He was always asking about my health, family, or offering his help in any way. I could always rely on Tony and vise-a-versa but, he would rarely ever ask for help for anything. I am going to miss my 'true' friend who was like a brother. All of the good times we had camping, going to SugarLoaf 'to at least try to ski', the rides around the loop, the trading of our secret fishing spots I will miss it all! But,I thank you my friend for allowing me to know you & for sharing your incredible zest for life with me. Thank you and god bless. "Life Is Good"

Tony was, hands down, the best of us all! He is the yardstick that we are all measured by! All he ever did was give, and never take. He didn't worry about unimportant details like most of us do. He had his priorities in life finely tuned, which were his family's and friend's needs first above all, even before his! Though his lifetime was short, it was a life lived excellently by the best person we've ever met! If we all heed the life lessons that Tony taught us, we'll all be much happier and better people for it! We appreciate all that you've done for us, Tony, we love you forever!

They spent a lot of time together over the years...shared a lot of laughter and maybe even a drink or two...Tony always was so cheerful and pleasant.
