Anthony B. Henninger, age 82, of Las Vegas passed away at home, on July 16, 2014. Tony was born Feb 5, 1932 in Pittsburgh, PA and he grew up in Hazelwood, PA. Tony joined the US Navy when he was seventeen to see the world and sail the seas. He received his “Round the World” certificate and stayed in the Navy for four years. He served on board the USS Worcester CL-144 during the Korean War. He had many adventures and formed friendships with his shipmates that endured resulting in reunions. After his discharge, he came back to Pittsburgh and worked in the steel mill.

He decided to take advantage of a veteran’s program to go back to school to receive his high school diploma. Tony was one of the first Veteran’s in Pittsburgh to do this and completed his high school education. Tony started working for a finance company in Pittsburgh and this is where he met his wife, Phyllis.

They were married in Las Vegas on New Year’s Day, 1960. After returning to Pittsburgh, he started working for Calgon Corp. He became a star salesman traveling 13 states. After their son, Eric, was born in 1962, Tony decided that all the traveling was too much time away from his family. He wanted to go west. The family came to Las Vegas in 1962 and Tony became the manager of Water Chemist Inc. Their home office was in Los Angeles. This was a new business in Las Vegas but with Tony in total charge, he made it a success. He was well known and respected in this industry.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis, son, Eric Henninger and wife MaryRose, grandson, Bentin Henninger, brother, Ted Zuend and wife Luci; nephews: Curtis Zuend, Michael Butta, C.J. Ford, Ronald Wolford, Nick Wolford, Blake Haller and David Marsh; nieces: McKenna Ford Kale, Lisa Wolford, Phyllis Wolford and Paula Wolford; sister-in-laws: Linda Ann Ford and companion Ray Jarvis, Dolores Droste, Kathy Ford and Dorothy Wolford Harms.

A special mention should be made of the excellent nurses from Family Health Care Services, the wonderful personnel of Optum Care Plus and also Nathan Adelson Home Hospice. Through their combined efforts we were able to keep Tony at home. No services are scheduled.

“To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die” Tony, you are living still in many, many hearts.
