I emailed this to my Roanoke Valley Claims Association members and the members of the Insurance Professionals of Roanoke, both trade groups dedicated to the insurance industry that Arch so loyally served and it seems appropriate, with some editing, to forward it on right here:
"Regarding our good friends at Crittenden, I regret to announce the death yesterday of their founder Arch Crittenden. Arch was an important figure in the Virginia State Claims Association as far back as my history as a member began in 1981. More recently, Arch has been enjoying his retirement in Florida and tried to keep up with all that was going on with our state group. Arch was always a reliable supporter, both financially and otherwise and, obviously, that spirit is continued here as a testament to Arch, that (his successors continue those types of) offer(s) of support...". Arch's steadfast support, skills and professional courtesy to all those he met from the highest to the lowest station was an inspiration in the rather difficult and misunderstood insurance claims industry and there are precious few of his kind left with us, many of whom can still be found in the very company that carries his name.

Arch was quite a fellow. I had the opportunity of knowing him both in the OFA, which we both loved, and the NAIIA. We were both officers in each and I got to really get to know him. A man of strong convictions and morals and when he was asked to pray , opening a meeting or banquet, you knew he KNEW the person he was talking to. I'll miss him and his family.

It was an honor to have served in support of an industry which had enjoyed the benefit of your leadership and those whom you enlisted to work with the same integrity and skill.
You will be missed,

I'm so grateful for the peace and understanding that grew between us over the last few years ... it means a lot to me and I know it meant a lot to you. I'm grateful for some of the best parts of me being borne from the Crittenden traits of true grit and determination. I am thankful that you are no longer in pain and my prayer is that you have found eternal peace. I love you Dad. Love, Wanda
