Mr. Barron proudly served in the US Army during World War II and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. While pursuing a degree in business from Duke University, he met his beloved wife of 62 years, Kathryn. Following his graduation, Mr. Barron and his new wife moved from Cheraw to Columbia where he worked in insurance sales, later at C & S Bank, and he retired after 20 years of service with the South Carolina Vocational Rehabilitation Department. Mr. Barron was deeply involved in service to the community, and was a member and former President of the Five Points Kiwanis Club. A member of Eau Claire Presbyterian Church since 1952, Mr. Barron devoted his time and talents to the church; serving as a Sunday School teacher, Deacon, and as an Elder and Elder "Emeritus".

Robert Barron
Something minor took place during John's "speech" at his dad's funeral that explains why I liked Archie's family more than any of my other relatives. John took a lighthearted swipe at his brothers as he began that they could follow him if they disagreed with his version of events. I was a row behind Richard and rather than take any offense, he chuckled and maybe I heard a "no thanks" since he, like me, isn't real keen about speech-making.
The light-hearted kidding I so enjoyed started with Archie and Kathy.
They both always loved a laugh. If someone made a joke at your expense, you should laugh along or see if you could come up with a better one at their's. But it was always all in fun, never the slightest mean-spiritedness in any joke.
This is not a knock but I never reached that level of fun with any other relatives.
John mentioned Archie was a great teacher of sportsmanship.
Archie's humor and sportsmanship: clearly these were the reasons Archie's family was like a second one for me. The sparkle in his eye was evident even in the late photo of him in the funeral handout. There are not near enough Archie Barron's in the world and he will be dearly missed by all who had the joy of knowing him.

Archie Barron was my first cousin and a man I always respected - not only for his service to his country in World War II, but also for his exemplary life. He will be greatly missed.
