Arlie Purser Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 22, 2013.

Arlie passed away peacefully, survived by her loving husband, Dan Foote and his children, Brian, David, Cheryl, Steve, Marcia, Julia and Laura; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Also survived by her brother, Roger (Janet); niece, Rebecca; nephew, Benjamin; and great-niece, Cassidy.
Arlie, a graduate of UBC, taught in the Coquitlam School District for 37 years. She was very involved in after school activities and the Girl Guide movement. She loved to travel and spent many summers seeing the world, never going to the same place twice.
A life rich with community involvement included several years with Operation Red Nose, the United church, Go Go Grannies, The Garden Club, Scandinavian Club, Ladies Golf Club, Sons of Norway and "The Order of the Rose" Beta Sigma Phi. Arlie will be deeply missed by so many.
Special thanks to the care and concern of the surgeon and nursing staff of 4 North at the Royal Columbian Hospital.
A memorial will be held at Trinity United Church 33737 George Ferguson Way on Saturday, March 30, 2013 from 3 – 5 pm. In lieu of flowers donations to the Kidney Foundation or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.

Arlie will be so missed!! She was my sister, Janice and my grade three teacher in Glen Elementary school. She was also our Brown Owl in Brownies and our Mom, Alice was her Tawny Owl. Arlie became a true family friend that we have kept in touch for over 50 years. On behalf of my sister and our family we send our deepest sympathy to Danny and Family.

Arlie always showed appreciation for my articles in the Mitchell Family Newsletter and never failed to let me know. We had a wonderful communication just before she died. I am so thankful for that. She was a valuable Canadian. My heart goes out to Danny.

Miss Purser was my teacher in grade 5 at Porter. Arlie's love of travel was passed on to me when she organized the trip to expo in 1970 in Osaka Japan. She was a coach both after school and in the community with activities like softball, volleyball, basketball.I remember in grade 5 I believe, Arlie ran a contest in the class and John Cornes and I were invited to go shopping with Arlie to pick the prizes, This included dinner at white spot. Needless to say I begin to see a different side of teachers. A very giving lady. They don't make teachers like her any more.
I am sorry for the family and communities loss!

Miss Purser was one of those really special teachers. I was lucky to have her as my teacher in grade 3 at Glen Elementary School. She made learning fun and I often thought of her over the years. My thoughts are with her family. Linda Anderson who used to be Linda Earl.

Dear Danny and Family, I am so sorry for your loss. Arlie was a terrific lady and I will miss her laugh and her sense of humour. I will miss our ladies golf nights and our girls lunch get togethers. I will remember her for the special woman she was.

Dear Danny - we were so sorry to hear about Arlie - although we didn't see each other often - mostly at Mitchell reunions - she was a very special lady and someone we eagerly looked forward to seeing. Take good care of yourself and please know that the Mitchell cousins in the East are thinking about you. - Lots of Love - Ken & Pam
