Arlon B. Allen, 90, of Lufkin, was born January 25, 1920 in Gehagan, Louisiana, the son of the late Lanora (Squyres) and John Henry Allen. He passed away Thursday, April 29, 2010 in a local hospital.
Mr. Allen was a retired carman with Southern Pacific Railroad. He served his country with the United States Army during World War II. He was a member of Lufkin's First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his son, Jerry W. Allen of Houston; daughter and son-in-law, Helen and Richard Benoit of Vidor; daughter, Nancy Patterson of Beaumont; brother, Evin Allen of Pearland; grandchildren, Julie Kitchen, Amy Riddle, Melissa Coon, Calvin Sharp, Kristena Smith, Lori Perkins, Shawn Benoit and Raven Odoms; 13 great-grandchildren; special nieces, Carolyn Lightfoot and Pat Bailey; and a number of other nieces, nephews and family members.
Mr. Allen was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Allen, in 1999; 3 brothers; and 6 sisters.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mr. Allen's memory may be made to Lufkin's First Baptist Church, 106 E. Bremond, Lufkin, Texas 75901.
Services for Mr. Allen will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, May 1, 2010 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. Andrew G. Pittman officiating. Eulogy will be offered by Mollie Allen. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
Friends are invited to visit with the family from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.

I worked with him and then supervised him for several years. AB was always a good employeee and most important a good man. He was one of the people that you really dont have to supervise you just get out of his way and let him do his job and he did it well. He always had my respect and I have always counted him a friend. I am finally retired now and when I think back of the good times with SP Railroad its most often of the "Rabbit Railroad" and the crew in Lufkin. If theres a railroad in Heaven then they just got a good "carknocker". mike rogers
