Arthur "Buddy" Blankenship, 70, of Conroe, Texas passed away after a sudden illness on March 11, 2017. Buddy was born in Houston, Texas on October 17, 1946. He was the beloved son of Arthur "Blackie" Blankenship and Dorothy Coy and younger brother to Fred Blankenship and Betty Anne Reeves. If anyone could say that they had cleared their Bucket List it would be Buddy. He drove race cars with greats like AJ Foyt and he played baseball with Nolan Ryan. He was a certified diver, professional football player, Police Officer, school teacher, a college professor and then a college director. He was an award winning high school linebacker and a state batting champion in junior high. Buddy coached football and baseball, taking his team to a district championship. Always an entrepreneur at heart, he owned and operated several successful businesses. He loved to hunt and fish. He even competed in quick draw and so much more. Buddy surrounded himself with family and friends throughout his life and no one could ever say that they had a dull time if he was around. He was an outgoing and bold individual on the outside but a deep thinker within himself and a true friend to all that knew him. He never met a stranger, and there was always room for one more at the table. Buddy is survived by his wife, Judy Pabor Blankenship; his son Larry and daughter Tabitha; their mother, Betty Miller Blankenship; his daughter-in-law Stephanie; his son-in-law in heart Jay Hanna; his grandchildren Hailey, Wyatt, Arabella and Eliana; and many greatly loved cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Buddy was preceded in death by his father, Arthur "Blackie" Blankenship; mother, Dorothy Coy; brother, Fred Blankenship; sister, Betty Ann Reeves; and his grandson, Gabriel Blankenship. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 16, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Metcalf Funeral Home located at 1801 E. White Oak Terrace, Conroe, Texas 77304. Family and friends are encouraged to attend and celebrate the life of Buddy. The family encourages guests to bring their stories and memories of Buddy to share during the memorial. Buddy was the genuine article. He was forthright and he was a good man. I don't believe many folks had any gray area as to where they stood with this man. That is something that sets good men apart from the rest.
I also know that his family was his center, and that I'm thankful I got to know the man that Buddy Blankenship was in his lifetime.
I am certain that God has received this good man into his eternal kingdom, and there is no higher reward for a life well lived. God Bless Buddy, and God Bless and comfort his entire family in this time of sorrow.

I only met Buddy 5 years ago but I knew the minute we started chatting that he and his beloved wife, Judy, we're my kind of people. He regalled me with stories of his life and I knew that if i had met them 30 years ago, we would gave been hanging out together and would have been friends for life. He was COOL! Buddy is a rock star and the angels will be busy keeping him in line! Rest in Peace, Buddy. You led an amazing life. We should all be that lucky.

Buddy, you left a little too soon, but I know you are in a better place and not suffering. I had planned to visit you this spring after several years of suffering through some health problems of my own. My family and I quite frequently looked at old photos of you and your family and remembered the good times we had in Colorado and Texas. You were like a brother to me and I will never forget you and your positive attitude. I pray that God will watch over your family and give them peace during this time.

My father was such an amazing man. He taught me to be strong and I hope to carry on his spirit of life through myself and his granddaughters. I will miss him so much. He is watching over us at peace with his family that he has missed for so long.
