Obituary

Arthur L. "Sonny" Alford, 76, went home to be with his Lord, Thursday, July 15, 2010 from the VA Medical Center. Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 18, 2010 at 3pm at Baldwin Lee Funeral Home in Pearl with visitation from 1pm until 3pm. Mr. Alford was born in Beech, MS to Arthur R. Alford and Lona Lee Wallace and grew up in Morton, MS. He joined the US Air Force at the age of 18, was a Vietnam Veteran, and proudly served his country for twenty years until his retirement. He continued serving his fellow man through law enforcement retiring from the Rankin County Sheriff's Department. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post #...
Arthur L. "Sonny" Alford, 76, went home to be with his Lord, Thursday, July 15, 2010 from the VA Medical Center. Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 18, 2010 at 3pm at Baldwin Lee Funeral Home in Pearl with visitation from 1pm until 3pm.
Mr. Alford was born in Beech, MS to Arthur R. Alford and Lona Lee Wallace and grew up in Morton, MS. He joined the US Air Force at the age of 18, was a Vietnam Veteran, and proudly served his country for twenty years until his retirement. He continued serving his fellow man through law enforcement retiring from the Rankin County Sheriff's Department. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post # 6473. In his retirement he enjoyed golf and working in his yard. His constant canine companion, Ty, will miss following his every step.
Mr. Alford is survived by his wife, Ruthie T. Alford; daughters, Carolyn Waldrop, Carol Goss (Davis), Mary Cleveland (John), and Cheryl Alford; stepchildren, Al Sullivan, Jerry McDill and Kathy Bounds; grandchildren, Jason and Lorie Frith, Jacob and Joel Waldrop, John Cleveland, Jr., Jeremy McDill, Dorian Sullivan, Brittany and Cameron Bounds; and great-grandchildren, Macie Frith and Taylor Waldrop.
Mr. Alford was a loving father, grandfather, husband, and friend. His wonderful sense of humor and playful personality will be greatly missed.
