Arthur Castro Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 22, 2013.

Arthur was born on May 24, 1953 at his parent's home in Bakersfield, CA and went to be with the Lord on May 19, 2013 at age 59. Arthur was the 3rd child to Enrique and Maria Castro. He graduated from Foothill High School in 1972 and married the love of his life, Pam, in June of 1975. Arthur has always been a very dedicated employee and through the years worked in the farming industry, the oil industry at Getty/Texaco, and then began working for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation in 1993. During his 19 years with North Kern State Prison, he made many friends and was so proud of the career path he had chosen. Arthur and his wife raised two daughters, Cristina and Priscilla, and over the last 10 years, has been an amazing Papa to his only grandson, Jayden. He enjoyed family vacations to the beach, snow skiing, golfing, working out, keeping his cars clean, and working in the yard to make his house look spectacular. Arthur was very much a family man and through the years he spent much of his time with his extended family, including his parents, brothers and sisters, his in-laws and close family friends. As a proud Papa, he made a point to attend all of Jayden's sporting events and took every opportunity to have fun and make memories with him. He always had a great sense of humor and there was nothing like seeing him smile or hearing him laugh. Through all of the battles he faced in life he was always a strong man and a courageous fighter. Arthur is survived by his beloved wife of 37 years Pam Castro (Foxal), his daughters, Cristina and Priscilla Castro, and his grandson, Jayden Smith. He is also survived by his father, Enrique Castro, brothers, Robert (wife Carol), John (wife Zina), sisters, Teresa Covarrubias de Mateos (husband Manuel) of Guadalajara, Mexico, Obie Delano, Angie Michaels (husband Alan) and numerous in-laws, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many good friends. Arthur was preceded in death by his son, Arthur Aguayo Castro Jr., his mother, Maria Luisa Aguayo de Castro, his brother, Jose Aguayo and his father-in-law, Bernie Foxal. A memorial of Arthur's life will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, May 24th at Hillcrest Memorial Chapel, with a reception to follow. The Castro family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to Dr. Ravi Patel and the staff of CBCC as well as staff at UCLA and Mercy Hospice. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CBCC or to CCPOA-Correctional Peace Officer's Memorial Committee.

Pam, I am just hearing of your loss today. My heart is so broken for you. Illness is so trying, and then to lose the love of your life is so crushing. I pray that your faith sustained you in those days. Sid and I send our sincere condolences to you and your family. Knowing the two of you since high school, your marriage, your becoming parents are very nice memories for us. Sid & I are still in the same home your dad sold us. I am just learning of you losing your dad today as well. Arthur was a gem and continues to be in heaven. Keeping your beloved Art in conversation, will forever keep him alive. I know that you will hold him in your heart forever. I would love to see you again. But for now...I am sending you the biggest hug dear friend. Sid & I read Arts obituary together tonight, and will pray for all of you to remain in God's light, in peace.

On the very first day I walked into NKSP Art greeted me with a smile and firm hand shake. If ever I had a question he was there to listen and guide me. As the years progressed I thought of Art as my mentor and a friend. When I was in route to his area I would stop by and mess his desk up a little and take his staples our of his stapler, Art always knew who had stopped by to brighten his day. ? Art treated everyone as a friend and I felt very fortunate to know him as my friend. We send our deepest condolences to the entire CASTRO FAMILY in the loss of Art. There is another smiling angle in heaven looking over us all. With the loss of Art it has left a emptiness at NKSP, may he rest in peace and no longer in pain and keeping everyone smiling and laughing in heaven. ?

Mi amigo, Art, Terri and I send our love and wishes for a happy birthday – for we know that you are in heaven today as you commemorate your 60th. We trust that you know that your family and friends are gathering today to honor your remarkable life and to pay their last respects as you make that transition to heaven. I am saddened that I did not get to know you better but I want you to know that you always made me smile and brightened my day each time that I saw you when I returned to visit my hometown of Bakersfield. Terri and I often talk about how honored and appreciative we were to have you help coordinate security for our wedding! That is one of our fondest memories. To Pam, Christina, Priscilla and the rest of Art's family and friends, we wish we could be there with you today but please know that our thoughts are with you as you say goodbye to this wonderful man.

My dear friend Obie, I was deeply sadden to here the passing of Arthur. I will always remember playing as kids when we lived next door each other, especially one incidence when we were playing with dirt clogs and I picked one up and threw it up in the air and came down on Arthur and hit him on the head, he started crying and I kept telling him please don't tell your mom. I don't think he ever did. He was a very special person and will be missed. My heart felt sympathies and condolences to you and all your family.
