Doucette, Arthur "Art" Joseph – 94 of Halifax passed away in Northwood, Halifax, April 1, 2013. Born in Armirault's Hill July 27, 1918, he was the son of the late Peter and Margaret (MacDonald) Doucette.
Art is survived by his wife Maureen McCorry and his daughter Maryanne (John Boudreau), Largo, Florida; nineteen grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, one great great-grandchild.
He was an army veteran having served overseas during the Second World War with the West Nova Regiment. He worked with the federal and provincial governments, but he was best known for leading Art Doucette and his Orchestra. The orchestra played at various venues throughout the city and every Saturday night for 17 years at the Leghorn Bar-B-Q on the Bay Road.
Although Art retired from government work in the late 1990s, he did volunteer work at Northwood for 14 years plus, and played his music well into the 21st Century. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Visitation will be held Cruikshank's Halifax Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor Street on Wednesday, April 3, 2013, from 2-4 and 6-8 pm with a Legion Service at 6:30 pm. Funeral mass will be held at 10:30 am Thursday, April 4, 2013, at Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta Catholic Church on Normandy Drive in Halifax. Cremation to follow. Interment will be at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Art's memory may be made to the Northwood Foundation – Dignified Living Fund c/o Debra Norman.

"To Maureen and family, I would like to express my sympathy to you all for your loss. I remember when I was young watching Art play baseball. I was 4 years..." Andre Bourque (Dartmouth, NS)
