Upon his retirement in 2007, the hospital's citation stated "His critical mind and insistence on the rigors of scientific evidence in the process of clinical decision making created the foundation of much of our current clinical training program. His kindness, sense of humor and perspectives on the practice of medicine enriched the lives of those he touched. He continues to have a tremendous impact on many generations of rheumatologists."
