Born May 5, 1933 at Skjervøy, Norway, he was the son of Paula and Bjarne Hansen. Arthur immigrated to Canada in 1967. Predeceased by his wife Elisabeth, son Sturle, sister Johanne Petrine, and brother Konrad Bergvald.

As a young man Arthur spent many years in the Norwegian Merchant Navy as Chief Engineer, and then worked for 27 years at the Department of Oceanography, Dalhousie University. Arthur enjoyed the company of his many friends. Since 1967 he was a member of the Scandinavian Society of Nova Scotia. Besides his family, he was passionate about his music and loved to sing.

Funeral will take place at the Full Gospel Church, 2256 Larry Uteck Boulevard, Bedford on Saturday May 20 at 10 am, followed by a reception at 11 am. Officiating Pastor Knowles. Interment at a later date. Family flowers only, please. Donations can be made in Arthur's memory to the Full Gospel Church or to the Paraplegic Association of Nova Scotia.

His family would like to thank the team at the Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU), at the QEII Health Sciences Centre, for all the care and compassion that they gave, to provide relief and to improve the quality of life for both him and his family, as his life ebbed away during his final few days.
