Obituary

Asia "A" Lightner, age 92 of Doster, AL passed away Monday, December 9, 2013, at Dale Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm on Friday, December 13, 2013, at St. Louis Baptist Church in Elamville, with Reverend George Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be from 2:00pm until 4:00pm on Thursday, December 12 at the funeral home. Asia "A" Lightner, age 92 of Doster, AL passed away Monday, December 9, 2013, at Dale Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm on Friday, December 13, 2013, at St. Louis Baptist Church in Elamville, with Reverend George Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be from 2:00pm until 4:00pm on Thursday, December 12 at the funeral home.

Mr. Lightner was born April 1, 1921 in Doster, AL, son of the late Lewis Lightner and Zellie Lightner-Jones. He was known by family and friends as "A" and spent his entire life in his beloved community in Doster. Mr. Lightner was a member of Saint Louis Baptist Church and was a hard working son, husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. For those of you who knew him, you knew he was a provider to everyone in need. He loved farming and also was well known for his Georgia collards and peas. Mr. Lightner also loved sports, especially the Atlanta Braves. He believed that if you worked hard you could accomplish anything in life. He was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Mennie Lee Faulk on September 8, 1946. To that union were born ten children.

Mr. Lightner was preceded in death by his wife, Mennie Lee Faulk; his son, Joseph Asia Lightner, Jr.; four sisters, Amber Lightner, Daisy Lee Copeland, Hillie Mae Johnson and Lois Stewart.

He leaves to cherish his memory; four sons, Isiah Lightner (Connie) of Stone Mountain, Ga., Walter Ray Lightner (Angernette) of Ariton, AL., Bobby Lewis Lightner of Huntsville, AL. and Douglas Earl Lightner of Stone Mountain, Ga; five daughters, Malvia Jean Baxter (Jerry) of Clio, AL., Norma Jean Govan (Randy) of Clio, AL., Mary Inez Moses (Tony) of Lithonia, Ga., Christine Noble (Terry) of Tyrone, Ga and Loretta Mitchell (Eric) of Ariton, AL.; his brother, Ulysses Lightner (Mable) of Ariton, AL.; also surviving are his sixteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
