August J. "Augie" Tindell, 72, of Columbus, died at 12:14 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin.

Augie was a machinist for 35 years at Reeves-Reliance Electric and served 20 years as a Columbus City Councilman. He was a member of Camon Lodge No. 343 F&AM and a former board member of Eastside Community Center.

He was a 1959 graduate of Seymour High School. He was a western and war movie enthusiast, enjoyed bowling and building tin men from recycled cans and was an avid Cincinnati Reds, Notre Dame and IU fan.

Funeral service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Myers-Reed Chapel on 25th Street with the Rev. Kirby Rupp officiating. Calling will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday and one hour prior to the service Monday. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the Parkinson's Awareness Association.

Born in Jennings County Nov. 14, 1940, Augie was the son of Roy Sterett and Minnie Alvina Seegers Tindell. He married Sandra M. "Sandy" Albert July 5, 1959, in Seymour.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Jeff (Kim) Tindell of Columbus; a daughter, Penny (Ronnie) Ritter, Edinburgh; a daughter-in-law, Julie Tindell, Columbus; a sister, Eva (Charlie) Hunter, Litchfield, KY; a cousin who was raised like a sister, Betty (Jack) DeHaven, West Virginia; grandchildren, Jimmy (Lisa Madden) Tindell, Anna (Randy) Hammond and Cassie (Kyle Tews) Tindell, all of Columbus, Aubrie Ritter, Edinburgh, Chris Tindell, Lisa (Niels) Camp, Nevie Tindell and Katie Tindell, all of Columbus; and great-grandchildren, Peyton, Parker and Paxton Hammond, all of Columbus, and an expected great-grandson, Landon.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, James R. Tindell; a sister, Emma Jane Maschino; and a brother, Roy Tindell, Jr.
