Aziz was born in Cairo, Egypt on April 3, 1935. He graduated from medical school in 1958 and immigrated to the United States in 1969 to escape war and follow his calling to help others. Starting with so little, he went on to become a world-renowned eye surgeon, founding the Anis Eye Institute in 1974 and serving the community of Lincoln, NE for over 30 years. His innovation and brilliance in this field led to the development of LASIK surgery, new techniques in healing cataracts, and numerous other patents that revolutionized the industry. He also spent much of his career traveling the world sharing his techniques so that he could aid so many others in need, and became a published author several times over.

Among his many accomplishments, none was more meaningful to him than the creation of his family. Nothing made him more proud. He was preceded in death by his wife Nadia (1974), and is survived by his wife of 36 years that he loved dearly, Jolene Anis; his daughters, Ghada Anis, Azza Andreesen and her husband Tom, Mariane Weinand and her husband Bryce, and Natalie Anis; grandchildren, Sophie (17), Jacob (16), Ben (11), Luke (11), Max (3) and Emma (8 mo). He will be greatly missed by all who knew him, and his legacy touched even those who didn't. He will be remembered for being a gentle soul who was fiercely passionate, loved unconditionally, lived life to the fullest and loved his family deeply

A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, July 3rd at Cathedral of the Risen Christ, Lincoln, NE at 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his honor to the American Heart Association (http://bit.ly/AmericanHeartAssocAziz).
