Dear Nada and Nesreen,
I was deeply saddened to hear about the loss of your mother. She was a great friend of mine during all the years I spent in Bloomington. I met her shortly after I arrived in Bloomington. Her kindness and generosity made the first few days of my stay so much easier, and since then she became my closest friend in Bloomington. I will never forget the many visits we had together and the meals we shared, her wonderful stories, her humour, her cheerfulness and her amazing generosity and care for people. Even though I left Bloomington many years ago, I still remember the years I spent there with fondness and Baqie is the one that made those years dear to me. I will miss her terribly and will never forget her cheerful spirit, her courage and strength, her kindness and generosity and her intelligence. Her death is a big loss to all those who knew and loved her.
Nada and Nesreen, I send you my deepest sympathy and I want you to know that my thoughts are with you and the rest of the family. Baqie's spirit will always be with us, and her courage and strength will remain an inspiration to me.
Love,
Raghad Hussami

Baqie was beloved. I will miss our random encounters at the libraries where she often provided this lowly graduate student encouragement. She will remain a powerful example of what enjoyment in scholarship looks like.
