Barbara Albrecht of Monroe, CT and Greenwood, SC entered into eternal life on Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at the age of 53. She was born in Jersey City, NJ to John and Helma Wilke on June 7, 1959. Barbara was a loving mother to her sons Erik and Alexander and a wife to Robert for 25 years. She is survived by her sisters Kathy Warren and Karin Evans, both of whom she dearly loved. Additional loved ones include her Uncle George Wilke and his wife Marie; Aunt Linda and her husband Chris Wright; brother-in- law Morgan Evans; and cousins Bob Wilke, Christian Wright, Alison Veliky and her husband George, and nephew Thomas Evans.
Barbara was a graduate of Bergen Community College of New Jersey, and later attended Housatonic Community College in Bridgeport, CT where she earned an Associate's Degree in the Sciences. There she was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Society for Academic Excellence.
Barbara loved life, had a beautiful smile, was quick to laugh and enjoyed the company of family and friends. She deeply appreciated the beauty of nature and was a strong advocate for her beloved members of the animal kingdom. She was an outdoor and sports enthusiast who enjoyed hiking biking, tennis, kayaking and cross country skiing. Barbara was an accomplished cook who enjoyed preparing fine cuisine, and attended classes at the Culinary Institute of America. Barbara was an accomplished artist and painter who excelled in hand painted furniture, wall murals and decorative home accessories, many of which can be found today in Fairfield County homes.
Barbara's career spanned a variety of industries. She was an executive assistant to a Senior Partner at Fried, Frank Shriver, and Jacobson of New York, a major merger and acquisition firm in the mid 1980's; was a General Manager of Erial International, a northeast regional bottler of mineral waters; and had worked at Med 3000 in Shelton, CT, a provider of healthcare management services. Barbara also created Embellished Woods, a furniture restoration business and Crepe Luise, a custom baked goods business serving specialty coffee shops.
Barbara was a loving and giving individual who supported many local charities. She will be forever missed by her family, friends, and all those who knew her.
In lieu of flowers the family wishes for contributions to be made in her name to the Audubon Center – Bent of the River located at 185 East Flat Hill Road, Southbury, CT 06488.

To Rob, your sons and all of Barbara's family - I googled her name today and am stunned - I am very sorry to learn of this a year later - we were very close friends at one time but I am such a loner I let go of my friend along the way. Lost my brother this year and now I read this. Thinking of all of you with memories of the Hillsboro house, the births of Eric and Alex and barbecues at John's house (the Dallas ranch). So sorry.

For Rob, Erik, Alex, the Wilke family, and all others who loved Barbara and were loved by her, our hearts are broken for you and for her. As you combat your profound grief that she was here but a short time, we hope you are comforted by the beautiful memories of her amazing life and accomplishments as she juggled the many roles she took on: wife, mother, daughter, sister, student, artist, community advocate, avid athlete, and passionate curator of so many things so pure and so beautiful in her home and other surroundings. We pray too that she was fully aware of how much she had accomplished, and how loved and admired she was by so many.
Our deepest and heartfelt sympathy for this huge loss, Bob and Liz Weinmann

Dear Rob, Erik, Alex and all of the family,
Please accept our most heartfelt condolences.
Our memories are of family times on Canterbury Lane…Barbara in the kitchen cooking up a storm, perhaps whipping up some new frozen concoction in her new blender, laughing and talking on the back deck with the extended family, strolling in the neighborhood after a holiday meal. The happiness and joy of those times will be with us always.
Our prayers and thoughts are with you.
Love,

Barb moved to New Milford when we were both 16, and I decided soon after meeting her that I wanted the two of us to be friends. We would often walk home from school together, and, sure enough, became close friends. My mom would tell me, “That girl has spunk.” She was a magnet for people, and always adventurous. She alone could get me to wear a bridal dress, and I was honored to be part of her and Rob's wedding. Barb, even though, in the last few years, we lost contact, don't ever think you didn't play a big part in my life. Your friendship and your generosity will be missed. My heartfelt condolences to Rob, her boys, her parents, and family and friends.

Barbara and I knew each other as teenagers. She was truly radiant and full of life – sweet, warm, caring, funny, a pleasure to be around, always lighting up the room with her smile (even with braces back then!). When I saw her at our most recent high-school reunion, I was so pleased to hear her speak of her family and her life with such joy and happiness. I was deeply saddened to hear of the loss of such a wonderful person and spirit. My heartfelt prayers and condolences to all her family, friends and loved ones.

Helma, John, Kathy and Karin and Rob, Erik and Alex, though the miles and following our own life paths have put some years between us, the bonds of friendship will always be there. Was it only yesterday that the Yurichkos traveled to the burbs (Teaneck) to visit the Wilkes? Good times, day trips and vacations together…good memories. We will miss Barbara…a beautiful girl, a lovely woman. But I have no doubt that as she entered the gates of Heaven greeted by loved ones passed, Dad (Mike) was also there…with the disappearing ink, squirting flower and lots of old jokes! I'm so very, very sorry. Keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers.

Dear Rob, Erik and Alex;
We are heartbroken for all of you. Barbara was that rare person who was as beautiful on the inside -- warm, loving, generous, kind -- as on the outside. She had a way of focusing intently on you when you were speaking and listening very carefully. She made you feel like you were the most interesting person in the room. She also had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh and have fun. It still makes me laugh even now to remember how we grown-ups misbehaved during Cub Scouts, joking around and making each other laugh, when our sons had their meetings. Do you know, years ago, at one of our pool get-togethers, that Barbara and I came up with the the "wife-swap" idea, decades before it was made into a television show?! We were laughing and joking with each other about how busy our lives were, and we speculated about how it would be to trade lives for a little while. (Too bad we didn't pitch our idea to a television studio.) I will treasure these fond memories of good times with Barbara. I hope in the difficult, sorrowful days ahead you can get some comfort and respite from your grief by remembering all the wonderful times you had with your beloved Barbara. With kindest regards,
Cynthia, Joe, Rob and Darren Ziehl

Dear Barbara,
As you are now testing out your new set of wings, flying around Heaven on the other side, please stay for a short while so we can all show you our love and bid you a farewell for now, as for one day we will meet again as you can assist us when we join you.
I leave you a photo of your legacy that you are deep in their hearts where you will live eternally with us when we think of you often as our love for you will make your new existence even more special. Because of that we will not let you go. Your new life will be as remarkable as it was when you touched our lives, like you did with your raisin stuffing at thanksgiving, and your legacy of handcrafted furniture you left us. Fortunatly for us, there is so much of you in our heart we can never forget the good times we had. Although its not fair that you beat us to the punch, you are now with others who have gone and are with you now. Please say hello to Nana Pat, and PopPop Al as Im sure they were one of the many who waited for you when you joined them, along with your grand parents and Aunts and Uncles. We will miss you for now, however we will all look forward to the day were we will meet up again and you can give us a tour of your present existence. Heaven is a wonderful place which I am sure you know this already. Please help us with the pain that we are all suffering being we miss greatly because without your sense of humor,an loving personality it will take us a while to heal. As we will join you soon, until then we will remember all the good times we had together. The great kids you raised as part of your Legacy. The friends and family that might find it difficult. I love you and will miss you, but knowing you will be in everybodys heart an minds will help us heal for now. Until we meet again, please help us in our own way deal with you not being around, as you touched our lives more than you could imagine.
Your Loving Brother In Law
Ray
