Having been away from gardening circles, I recently learned of Barbara's passing. The news has yet to sink in and came as a shock. Barbara was the epitamy of Life, and one who emmulated a shining ray of hope, the refreshing spirit Life and all its wonders to learn and explore. She was called Home much too soon but then again, Barbara was lent to us as a heavenly angel so as to demonstrate how and what it means to be an example unto others. She used to chuckle about a pet nickname her husband coined, calling her "DP" for "digging up and planting". Indeed, Barbara enhanced much which crossed her path, no matter whether of human concern, plants in the soil or sights to be seen. I will miss you, Barbara, and will hold your Goodness you graciously shared with so many in a special place forever in my heart.

I've just learned of Barbara's passing--what a loss.Taking her classes at Spruill back in the mid-'90's was just the beginning! She instilled not only the love of plants & gardening, but the love of the "hunt" for those plants. She was such a delight, & such a wealth of info, as well as fun. She helped me with my own garden. I will never forget that, or her. She will be missed, but never forgotten. Suzanne Shinall, Smyrna, Ga

Barbara and I were friends for 44 years. She is one of the dearest memories of my life. Her enthusiams were infectious. My own limited gardening and painting abilities were a result of her encouragement. She was loving, intelligent, fun, and an inspiration. We will all miss our dear Barbara.

Barbara touched the hearts of myself and my daughter Sophia in so many ways! She was always so kind and generous. She showed my little 3 year old about flowers and gardening. She enriched our lives and was such a special talented, driven, beautiful woman.

Barbara took us to places we had never been and introduced us to plants, gardens and gardeners that we would not have known without her. She left the world a more beautiful place because of her presence.

It is with sadness that I read of the passing of Barbara. She had a way of generating enthusiasm for all endeavors she attempted, infecting everyone around her, enticing all to join in. The gardening world will be less bright without her. Sandra J. Sandefur (Kennesaw, GA.)

Many years ago I started the Georgia Perennial Plant Association. There were just a handful of us at that first meeting and Barbara was one of them. She volunteered to be the program director. I will never forget how Barbara would be able to get speakers for our meetings that had turned down other groups. So much of our early growth I attribute to the great caliber of speakers she got for our meetings. She helped in so many other ways as well including designing our first logo. Even though I have not seen her in years, I still consider her a close friend. I know she impacted a lot of people's lives and will be greatly missed. I am just thankful to have known her.

Barbara was so willing to share all her knowledge with others. As a new gardner, I was inspired and nurtured by Barbara. Her enthusiasm for all things living was a joy to behold. She remains with me in my memory, in the plants she has given me, and in the lovely landscape she designed for the front of my son's home. Barbara's legacy lives on. -- Judy Harhai

All my memories of Barbara are from the 80's when I lived in Riverside Estates. She was so gifted in many ways. The painting she did for me, from a photo of a child feeding pigeons in St Mark's Square, Venice, Italy, hangs in my foyer and I think of her when I look at the painting. What a lovely thing to leave behind.
