Barbara Bayly Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 17, 2013.

Barbara Joan Bayly 76, of Woodridge Road, Keene, NH, died January 13, 2013 with her loving family by her side, following a long and courageous battle with heart failure and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

She was born in Keene, NH, June 23, 1936, the daughter of Frances (King) and Leonard K. Doody. A lifelong resident of Keene, she was a 1954 graduate of Keene High School.

Barbara worked at the former Royal Furriers in Keene. She then spent the next several years as a wife and mother. She later worked for many years until retirement, as an underwriter with the Peerless Insurance Company in Keene.

After her first marriage ended, Barbara met and married G. Norman Bayly. They would have celebrated their 32nd anniversary on Valentines Day.

Barbara was a lovely woman in both her manner and her dress, which was always fashionable and well-coordinated. She had a dry sense of humor and frequently dropped "one-liners" that kept her friends and family laughing and entertained. She loved the ocean, especially Nubble Light in Maine, which she and her husband often visited.

She is survived by her husband, G. Norman Bayly of Keene, her son, Richard Patterson of Shrewsbury, MA and his children, Samuel and Jeremy; her granddaughter, Chloe Wampler Fellman and her husband, Adam, and their son Max, of Dover, her step-children, Patricia Cooke and her husband Harold and their daughter Sarah of Westmoreland; Steven Bayly and his wife, Kaari and their children Addia and Forrest, of Concord, and Linda Bayly of Brewster, MA. She is also survived by two sisters, Cynthia Georgina and her husband Malcolm of Keene and Donna Ballou and her husband Richard of Acton, MA, her brother Steven Cutter and his wife Carollynn of Nashua and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father, and her mother and step-father, Frances and Howard Cutter, who raised her. Her daughter, Lynne Patterson Sears died in 2006 and her son John K. Patterson, Jr., died in 2009.

To honor Barbara's wishes, there will be no formal funeral services or calling hours. A celebration of her life will be held in the spring.

For those who wish, donations may be made in Barbara's memory to the Professional Fire Fighters of Keene (for ambulance funds), c/o Keene Fire Department, PO Box 1426, Keene, NH 03431, or to a charity of one's choice.

The Foley Funeral Home of Keene, is assisting the family with the arrangements.

I remember working with Barbara everyday at Peerless for many years, always upbeat and expressed herself elegantly in her mannerism and speech. My sympathies to the family.
