Portland – Barbara L. (Maguire) Cady, 79, of Falmouth Maine, passed away in her sleep on November 5, 2013. The daughter of Charles J. and Margaret E. (Schmieg) Maguire she was born in New York City on May 16, 1934. She graduated from Newtown High School in Elmhurst NY. and received a bachelor of science in Education from S.U.N.Y. New Paltz. She married J. Alan Cady on August 11, 1956 in Elmhurst. They moved to Niagara Falls NY. and in 1964 they moved to Portland. Barbara worked as an elementary school teacher for over 20 years. After retiring, she worked at Shaw's Falmouth for several years. She was a member of the Cumberland County Retired Educators Association and Alpha Delta Kappa. Her greatest joys were her two grandchildren. Barbara was predeceased by her husband in 1971. She is survived by her daughter Linda Krasowski and her husband John of Portland, her sister Peg Hellgren of Florida, her grandchildren Jennifer Krasowski of NYC. and Michael Krasowski of Boston, nieces Karen & Tracey and her nephew Eric. Barbara's family would like to offer a special thank you to the Falmouth Rescue and Police Departments. Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial visitation on Sunday November 10, 2013 from 1:00 – 3:00 PM at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St. Portland. A memorial service will follow at the funeral home at 3:00 PM with Rev. Phillip Shearman officiating. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Barbara's memory to Cristo Rey Brooklyn High School, 710 E. 37th St. Brooklyn, NY 11203.

I am so sorry to learn of Barb's passing. I worked with her at Hall School at my first teaching job. I later became her ADK sister and enjoyed many shared events with her. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. May she rest in peace.
