We just learned of Barbara's death. Our prayers are with her loved ones. When I attended SPI, in 1987, Bob and Barbara let me keep my Harley Davidson in their garage. She was a very sweet lady. Professor Campbell called her his "child bride". Great memories. Peace be with you. Russ and Mary Cormican

Molly and I are saddened by the news of Barbara's passing. Our family started attending SPI Retraining Conferences back in 2007 and consider ourselves fortunate to have had the opportunity to meet and spend time with Professor Campbell and his exceptional spouse, Barbara. We have met so many extraordinary people through the SPIAA and certainly Barbara is at the top of the list. God's peace and blessings be with the Campbell family.

You never really get to pick who your next door neighbors are. You just kinda get stuck with the "luck of the draw." The Lengfellners were very lucky.

Barbara was respected & deeply loved by many of us associated with the Miss Kentucky Scholarship Organization. For over 40 years Barbara served as a Hostess in the dorm during pageant week, for contestants from throughout the state. She touched so many young ladies and board members hearts with her generosity, sense of humor & willing shoulder to cry on.

I have no doubt she is up in heaven organizing a pageant for the angels.

Much love from all "your pageant sisters & brothers.

She was always a light of life and added cheer and friendship to any situation she was in. But, Obviously God had another chapter in her life that he needed to fill. Losing a loved one is never easy, but with time and faith understanding will follow. Please know that Will, Tammy and I and Your many other friends will be praying for her and your family during this time, for comfort and understanding. Thank you for sharing Barb with all of us, she was The Special Lady. Nothing will be the same without Barb's smile and positive attitude.

Darrell / Laura Alley

Dr Campbell, family, colleagues, and friends: As a participant is the SPI 55th AOC, Spring 1976, I was among those that were invited by Dr Robert & Mrs Barbara Campbell to their home for a genuine Get Acquainted Southern Tea. An eloquent, albeit a warm and inviting evening was set before us. The elegance of the home and lovely setting were striking; however, everything that had been so tastefully and elegantly prepared was far secondary to the beauty, kindness, and genuine hospitality of Mrs Campbell! Not meeting a stranger among those she had never met, we were rather quickly immune that we were students of SPI and honored guests in their home. In that 2 hour time of fellowship, we were graciously allowed to become a family of friends with no prohibitive rank or structure to impede the free flowing appreciation of our commitment to our profession, family, and our respective communities. The ground was level in their home and in their presence.

Our duties to classroom and studies did not allow for frequent contact with Mrs Barbara, It was not necessary. Mrs Barbara's influence of sincere love and caring for Dr Campbell and his professional student colleagues were indelibly etched in our hearts and minds. To this very day, most SPI Alumni would convey that an evening with Mrs Barbara Campbell's flavor and hospitality are among the most prized life lessons we took from our incredible 14 week SPI experience.

Dr Campbell, you so well knew God had given you one of His most cherished angels to be your soulmate and to be the wind beneath your wings. You were deliberate in your giving honor and showing your unyielding love for Mrs Barbara. That may have been the greatest lesson taught in all the SPI curriculum!Barbara, we will miss you and those that follow at SPI will have an vacant slot in their learning cabinet that none other can fill.

Dr. Campbell, you were and are an admired and beloved faculty member at all of U of L and SPI. We will now share that we did get your message that Mrs Barbara, your beloved wife, was the single ingredient that flavored you with greatness. We are grateful that you and your family did share the blessing of your wife and their mom with those of us who now continue to carry the honor torch of Mrs Barbara everywhere we have been and wherever we go.

Mrs Barbara, keep your eye on the Eastern Gate and save the SPI 55th AOC a seat the table of the Home Coming Feast, See you soon! Dr Campbell and family, we pray that God's peace and presence shall be healing in your journey of grieving the loss of your beloved wife and mom.

Darrell & Laura Alley (Darrell - 55th AOC)
