Barbara Furgatch Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 22, 2014.

On April 21, 2014 at 9:30 p.m. at the Jewish Home for the Aging, Barbara Furgatch passed away. The world is a little lonelier and heaven has a new angel. Barbara was born the daughter of Joseph Schwartz, a furrier and his wife Bessie Aronowitz in New York on January 31, 1929. When Barbara was six years old she and her mother moved to California to live with her Uncle Arnold until they got their own apartment near the Shiners Auditorium. She attended high school at Manual Arts. During her high school years she was very active in BBG when she met her husband, Irving, at an AZA/BBG Dance. The day it was announced that WWI had ended, he asked her on their first date. The end of the war was the beginning of a new life for Barbara and Irv. They were married in 1948 in Los Angeles by her cousin Rabbi Joseph Sarachek. On July 20, 1956 they had their first daughter, Jody Lynn and on June 20, 1959 they had their second daughter, Catherine Diane. She had three grandchildren, Brianna Rose Pearlman, Ryan Anthony Lopez and Austin Seth Pearlman. She worked as a secretary and medical transcriber and was loved and revered as a dedicated hard worker who would always give of herself. She loved movie stars, playing pan with her friends and her trips to Las Vegas. She and Irv had many friends in the Sailing Club and Friendship Club. When they became residents of the Jewish Home she would speak to everyone. She was loved by her friends at the Jewish Home and the entire staff. She will be sorely missed by everyone.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Irving, her daughter Jody (son-in-law Frank) and, her daughter Cathy (son-in-law Barry), her three grandchildren, her sister-in-law Sally and her nephew Danny and other family members including her closest cousin Jacky Degner and family. Services will be held Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at 2:00 PM in the Groman Eden Chapel. Burial will follow in Eden Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Groman Eden Mortuary.
