Barney Buchanan, 86, of Tonganoxie, passed away Thursday, February 13th at the VA Hospital in Leavenworth. Graveside inurnment with Honors will be 3:00 p.m., Friday March 7th in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens,701 N.94th St., KCK. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the VA Homeless Veterans Program, 4101 S.4th St. Leavenworth, KS 66048.
Barney was born January 15, 1928 in Eldon, MO to Barney and Roberta Buchanan. He graduated from high school and immediately joined the Navy. After his honorable discharge, Barney worked for Sealrite Corporation 19 years, TWA in security 23 years, and retired in 1989. He has served as a reserve police officer at several Johnson County police departments and the Osage County Sherriff's Dept. Barney was a member of the Masonic Lodge Euclid 101, past Master 1963 at Rosedale 333, American Legion post 198 in Lyndon, KS for many years. He was also a former member of the Abdallah Shrine Temple, units Provost and Trail 70s. Barney was an avid fisherman and loved bowling. He was preceded in death by his parents, Barney Edward and Roberta Jane (Cooper) Buchanan. Barney is survived by his wife of 40 years, Dana F. Buchanan; his four daughters, Betty Powell, Charlotte Alden, Karen Lane Finch and Pam Irwin; his four step-children, Jeanie Lorfing, John Day, James Day and Julia Stoner; and his many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other family and many friends.

I had the privilege of knowing and working with Barney at Breech Training Academy in 1972...Barney was a swell fellow and I am truly saddened to hear of his passing....God Bless Barney and his family....
