Barry Owen Barnard, of Missouri City, Texas passed away on Saturday, March 8, 2014 in Sugar Land, Texas, at the age of 69 years.

Barry was born to Robert and Hazel Barnard on October 29, 1944, in Port Arthur, Texas. He was a 1963 graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School in Port Arthur and enlisted and served in the Army until 1968. Upon his return to Port Arthur, he attended Lamar University. Barry later moved to Houston to work for Texas Instruments, and later owned the Sears store in Eagle Lake. In 1976 he returned to Houston and worked for Union Carbide/Praxair until his retirement in 1996.

While on vacation in Hawaii in 1976, he met a beautiful young lady named Virginia Carrell, and they were married on August 28, 1976. They welcomed their beautiful daughter, Amanda Carrell Barnard on Barry's birthday, October 29, 1981. Barry always said Mandi was the best birthday present he ever received.

Barry loved time with family and friends and never met a stranger. As a teen and young man, he enjoyed water skiing with his friends in Port Arthur and at Lake Somerville. Barry also loved cars and was especially proud of his first new car, a 1962 red Impala that he had saved his money for by working various jobs for family friends. He loved traveling and in recent years enjoyed trips to Lake Charles where he made many friends.

Barry was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother, Rob; his father and mother-in-law, Cliff and Mattie Carrell; and brother-in-law, Lynn Jones.

He is survived by his loving wife, Virginia; and beautiful daughter, Amanda. In addition he is survived by sister, Susan Barnard Courville and her children Clay Courville and wife Jessica, and Caroline Courville Burkhalter and husband Jason; and sister-in-law, Betty Sue Jones. His great nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly are Emily and Isaac Courville, Brooke and Allison Burkhalter, Ethan, Tessa, and Rylan Jones. His constant companions have been Nena and Polly, his two rescue dogs whom he totally spoiled.

A Memorial Service is to be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, March 15, 2014, in The Resurrection Chapel at First United Methodist Church in Missouri City, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Barry's name may be made to First United Church of Missouri City, 1220 FM 1092, Missouri City, Texas, or the Houston Humane Society, 14700 Almeda, Houston, Texas.
