Barry Sherrill Lindley, 72, passed away on July 26, 2014, at Carolinas Specialty Hospital. He was born in Statesville, North Carolina, on September 20, 1941, to the late Albert Leroy and Edna Sherrill Lindley. He and his wife of 30 years, Sue Laura Barker Lindley lived in Maiden, North Carolina. At the time of his death, he was Choir and Handbell Director at St. James Lutheran Church in Newton, NC, and was also a technician for Lincoln Pipe Organs, Inc. Barry Sherrill Lindley, 72, passed away on July 26, 2014, at Carolinas Specialty Hospital.

He was born in Statesville, North Carolina, on September 20, 1941, to the late Albert Leroy and Edna Sherrill Lindley. He and his wife of 30 years, Sue Laura Barker Lindley lived in Maiden, North Carolina. At the time of his death, he was Choir and Handbell Director at St. James Lutheran Church in Newton, NC, and was also a technician for Lincoln Pipe Organs, Inc.

Previously, he was Choir Director at Grace United Church of Christ and First Methodist Church in Newton, Bethany Lutheran Church, Zion Lutheran Church and Penelope Baptist Church in Hickory, Woodlawn Baptist Church in Conover, and First Baptist Church in Taylorsville. He was the volunteer director of the Catawba Valley Community Chorus for a number of years. He also worked at Sears, several real estate companies and Graebel Van Lines.

Mr. Lindley held an Associate Degree in Music from Mitchell College in Statesville, a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music from Lenoir Rhyne College, and a Master's of Music from the University of South Florida at Tampa. He also had worked toward a Doctor of Musical Arts in Choral Conducting at the University of Miami.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Lindley is survived by a daughter, Donna Lindley Wolff and husband Robert John Wolff, and four grandchildren, Aubrey Smith, Lauryn Smith, Isaac Wolff, and Daniel Wolff of Columbia, SC. He is also survived by sisters-in-law, Phoebe Lindley, of Statesville, NC, Ann B. Parker, and Mary B. Keener of Maiden, NC, and a number of nephews and nieces.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Warren Lindley, sister-in-law, Alice Bradford, and brothers-in-law, William G. Barker and Fredrick S. Barker.

A resurrection service will be held at St. James Lutheran Church in Newton on Thursday, July 31, 2014 at 1:30 pm. Pastor John Lingle will officiate.

The family will receive friends prior to the service in the church sanctuary, from 12:00 to 1:15 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. James Lutheran Church Music Program, 1942 St. James Road, Newton NC 28658.
