Beatrice Formickella Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 21, 2013.

Formickella, Beatrice Caroline Elizabeth passed peacefully at home with grace and dignity on Saturday, January 19, 2013. Born in Garden City, New York, Beatrice was the daughter of the late Arthur P. Smith and Beatrice M. Smith. Her husband, Eugene A. Formickella; only brother, Arthur J. Smith; and sister, Frances H. Epp preceded her in death. Beatrice is survived by her sister, Rosemary; nieces Laura and Gail; and nephews Bill, Art and Lauren. Beatrice had a flair for fashion, a predilection for poodles, and a deep concern for her community. She was President of Port Jefferson's Chamber of Commerce for a generation and served as Stony Brook University Trustee. For over forty years Bea donned a colorful assortment of hats as she owned and operated Drowned Meadow Real Estate on Main Street in Port Jefferson. She also was a restaurateur and, in her youth, a New York City fashion model. Family and friends fondly recall Beatrice as a very strong woman, a trailblazer, and a gifted conversationalist. Bea reveled in engaging people in conversation; closely listening to what they had to say, then shocking and delighting them with an unexpected rejoinder. "Bebe" was unique, extraordinary, and a truly loving and kind soul. Her family will never forget the beauty of her spirit. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Casimir Funeral Home, 4839 Nesconset Highway, Port Jefferson Station, NY. Visitation Wednesday and Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral Mass Friday ____ am Infant Jesus R.C. Church, Port Jefferson. Interment Cedar Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, gifts to Save-A-Pet and Good Shepherd Hospice would be appreciated.

Dear Rosemary, Laura, Art and family,
I was so sorry to hear of Bea's passing. Unfortunately, I am out of the country on business and will not be able to attend her funeral. She was a great friend of our family and wonderful lady! I always enjoyed stopping by for a visit whenever I was "home" in Port Jeff, and always got a kick out of her referring to me as one of her "other kids". She was one of my first employers, and I will never forget hiking uptown with a backpack full of Port Jefferson Chamber brochures to give to the local merchants when I was about 13 years old, among a host of other odd jobs over the years.
She had a kind heart and a loving soul and will truly be missed! God Bless!
With love,
Brian Hoerger & Family
