Beatrice Parker Jernigan – age 92, resident of Saraland, AL died January 3, 2013 in the home of her daughter Diane Hoven. She was the last surviving child of Mamie Jodie Miller and George Williamson Parker. She was born at home in the house built by her father on March 20, 1920 on Warren Street in Whistler, AL. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, husband, George James Jernigan; sons, George Rufus Jernigan and William Burch Jernigan; son-in-law, Charles Condie Hoven, III; great grandson, Charles Bradley Hoven; one grandson by marriage, Jamie Orso; sisters, Alva Mae Gibson, Mamie Lucille Hendrix and Mabel Claire Dunn;...
Beatrice Parker Jernigan – age 92, resident of Saraland, AL died January 3, 2013 in the home of her daughter Diane Hoven. She was the last surviving child of Mamie Jodie Miller and George Williamson Parker. She was born at home in the house built by her father on March 20, 1920 on Warren Street in Whistler, AL. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, husband, George James Jernigan; sons, George Rufus Jernigan and William Burch Jernigan; son-in-law, Charles Condie Hoven, III; great grandson, Charles Bradley Hoven; one grandson by marriage, Jamie Orso; sisters, Alva Mae Gibson, Mamie Lucille Hendrix and Mabel Claire Dunn; brothers, Henry (Pete) Parker and Charles Parker. She was a faithful and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and mother-in-law to the following survivors: her loving son, James "Jimmy" (Elizabeth) Jernigan; her loving daughter and caregiver, Diane Hoven; loving daughter-in-law, Nancy Jernigan; grandchildren, Brian Jernigan, Sandy (Tara) Jernigan, Dawn (Steve) Rowell, Jay (Natalie) Jernigan, Conny (Amy) Hoven, Rhonda (Edward) Landrum, Keeli (Bo) Martin, and Lisa (Wayne) Jordan; great-grandchildren, Brandon Hoven, Lyndsey Bentley, Jami Jordan, Brittney Landrum, Anna Landrum, Ashley Landrum, Bill Rowell, Nikki Rowell, Michael Rowell, Jordan Jernigan, Will Jernigan and Caleb Jernigan; brother-in-law, Morris (Jan) Jernigan, Bernie, TX; many nieces, nephews and friends. She confessed Christ at an early age in the Bethany Baptist Church, Whistler, AL, now Kushla-Bethany Baptist Church. She was also a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Prichard, now College Park Baptist Church. Bea and George also attended Shiloh Baptist Church, Saraland. In later years she attended College Park Baptist Church with her daughter, Diane Hoven. She was a member of the Ethel Ramsey Order of the Eastern Star. She was in business in her early years in the Main Street Bakery, Prichard, and the Prichard Ambulance Company where she worked with her husband and mother-in-law, Edna Burch Jernigan. She attended Whistler Elementary School and Murphy High School. She and George celebrated their 50th anniversary in 1986 at Shiloh Baptist Church, Saraland, AL. They spent many happy years together. Bea, as she was known to all, was famous for her gumbo and her lemon ice box pies. She liked nothing better than to cook for her extended family. Should you come in, you too, were welcome at her table. She loved her family with all her heart and attended many parties and ball games for the grandchildren. Bea has left a lasting legacy of faithful love and devotion to her family. Her daily presence will be greatly missed by family and all of those who knew her. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Noah B. Whetstone, Springhill Hospice, Mary Spicer and Josephine Thomas for their loving care and heartfelt concern. The family will receive friends at Radney Funeral Home in Saraland on Sunday, January 6, 2013 from 5-8 p.m. A celebration of her life will be Monday at 2 p.m. from the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Brandon Hoven, Bo Martin, Wayne Jordan, Brian Jernigan, Edward Landrum, Sandy Jernigan, Jay Jernigan, and Steve Rowell.
