Benjamin Lewis Westmoreland, Jr. joined his Lord and Savior on September 27, 2013. He was born in Everett on March 8, 1918, to Esther and Benjamin Westmoreland, Sr. Ben lived all of his life in Everett. Born to a local pioneer family, Ben's grandfather, Hokan Lundgren, owned two lumber mills in Everett in the early 1900's. Ben graduated from the UW with a degree in Accounting. He married the love of his life, Charlotte Vick in 1941. They were happily married for 71 ½ years until Charlotte's death last October. When World War II came, Ben went to work first for Firestone and then for his father at Federal Meat Packing Plant and Western Meat Market. Twins Anne and Janet were born in 1942 and Mary in 1945. Ben and his father bought a ranch where Ben farmed and raised cattle until 1953 when he had to quit because of a tractor injury, (but he never gave up the Stetson hat)! The Lord provided for his return to law school. Starting in 1955, Ben practiced law for 50 years. Ben was active in the community in Lions Club, Snohomish County Handicapped Council, Goodwill board of directors, and the Everett School Board. He was especially involved in Bethel Baptist Church, his church for 83 years. His faith in Jesus Christ was the most important thing in his life. Growing up on the Everett Waterfront he acquired his life-long love of the water, which included cruises to the San Juan Islands at the age of 16 to the last of 25 cruises to Alaska in 2002. Ben is survived by his three daughters, Anne Robinson (Dwight), Janet Bryant (Ned), Mary Robinson (Mark), 4 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great granddaughter. A memorial service will be held at Bethel Baptist Church on Oct. 3, Thursday at 7 p.m., 2625 Hoyt Avenue. Memorials may be made to Bethel Baptist Church or Gideons International (PO Box 501, Everett, WA 98206).
