STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Benjamin Bottiglia, 82, formerly of Tompkinsville, a retired city Parks Department worker, died yesterday in Community Hospice, Toms River, N.J.


Born in Tompkinsville, he was a graduate of Curtis High School and moved to South Beach in 1956 and to Toms River in 1986.


He worked as a laborer for 33 years for the city Department of Parks and Recreation in Brooklyn. He retired in 1986.


He served in the U.S. Army stateside from 1951 to 1953, during the Korean War, and was a member of the Granito-Smith American Legion Post, New Brighton.


He was a former parishioner of Immaculate Conception R.C. Church, Stapleton, and also attended Holy Rosary R.C. Church, South Beach.


In his leisure time, he enjoyed traveling with his wife and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.


Surviving are his wife of 54 years, the former Dorothy Croker; a daughter, Margaret Szablewski; a brother, Lou Bottiglia; three grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.


The funeral will be Monday from the Virginia Funeral Chapel, Dongan Hills, with a mass at 10 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Grasmere.
