Obituary

Bennie Maurice Ivy, 73 of Marysville, Washington, passed away on November 14, 2013. He was born November 4, 1940 in Chicago, Illinois to Bennie P. Ivy and Gladys (BeLay) Ivy. Bennie 's family moved a lot first to Evansville, Indiana, then to Texarkana and Houston, Texas and back to Chicago. He really loved football. He went to college to play football and was almost drafted by The Dallas Cowboys, instead entered the military (US Army) and was a Vietnam War Veteran. Bennie was a paratrooper, special forces combat engineer with an explosives certification. While in the military, he met and married his loving wife, Sun Yon (Lee) Ivy....

He was born November 4, 1940 in Chicago, Illinois to Bennie P. Ivy and Gladys (BeLay) Ivy.

Bennie 's family moved a lot first to Evansville, Indiana, then to Texarkana and Houston, Texas and back to Chicago. He really loved football. He went to college to play football and was almost drafted by The Dallas Cowboys, instead entered the military (US Army) and was a Vietnam War Veteran. Bennie was a paratrooper, special forces combat engineer with an explosives certification. While in the military, he met and married his loving wife, Sun Yon (Lee) Ivy. Bennie retired after 23 years of service in the Army and went on to work as a police officer in Georgia. He relocated to Washington State and worked as security guard for many years.

Bennie enjoyed watch sports including football, boxing and basketball. He also enjoyed fishing and watching movies. He was a life member of the VFW and of the VVA.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sun-Yon (Lee) Ivy; his daughter, Jamilla Ivy of Augusta, Georgia; his three sons, Willliam Ivy of Atlanta, Georgia; Danny and Maurice Ivy of Everett, Washington; sisters, Patricia of Texarkana, Texas and Margaret of Chicago, Illinois; 7 grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 12-5pm, Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at Purdy & Walters with Cassidy.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 am, Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at Purdy & Walters with Cassidy.

Committal Service with Military Honors by the U.S. Army will follow at Cypress Lawn Memorial Park.
