Dear Bud, You know you were my favorite uncle! So many wonderful memories growing up with you. Your singing, guitar playing, and outgoing personality always added "zest" to our gatherings! People would start singing who never sang before!
The memories of the entire community swimming at Paxton's Pond on Sundays, the fish frys, chicken stews, turtle stews, soft ball games, square dancing in the "ole store house", with the Paxton kids, Bud, Dora, and Buck; Harmon brothers, and Lucas boys playing & singing! The "Paxton House", or as your sister, Louise, nicknamed it, "Gooseberry Farm", was the place to be, and it didn't cost a cent! All the memories growing up! The picnics under the 6 very large oak trees in the back yard, with all the relatives from Charlotte, NC coming down. Playing croquet under those trees, the tire swings made in those trees. The trees were like a giant umbrella! Picking scuppernongs under the giant arbor, picking apples and peaches in the back yard, making tree houses in the chinaberry trees. You, Buck, Pat, and I playing "penny poker" with match sticks, by light from a kerosene lamp! Picking the live, fresh, fish we wanted for supper out of the fish house at the spillway! Always fun! You outlived your entire family, (8 siblings), and bore a great deal of pain these last years, but you were a "trouper" throughout, and you never lost your keen mind! Your ability to remember dates of birthdays, weddings, and deaths, always astounded me! You were like your sister, (my mother), Marguerite, you never met a stranger! Everybody loved you!! You will be sorely missed! I'll always love you! Peggy
