Benny Hugh Sharp of Oklahoma City, returned to his Lord and Savior on July 13, 2013, following a short but courageous battle with cancer. He was born on January 23, 1935, in Stonewall, OK. He spent his formative years in Ada, a place he always held close to his heart. While as a teen, his family moved to Oklahoma City where he graduated from Classen High School. As a proud Comet, he was a highly decorated varsity athlete, finishing the runner-up in the state wrestling championships during his senior year.
Following graduation, Benny joined the US Navy and served proudly and honorably in the Atlantic Fleet, Norfolk Naval Station. Upon returning, he married the love of his life, Judith Ann Harris. By the early 1960s, he had joined Western Electric's Oklahoma City works (later known as Lucent Technologies) to spend a remarkable career that lasted more than three and a half decades. His work as an engineer and inventor earned numerous company and industry awards. Moreover, his inventions garnered multiple US patents. Throughout his career, he made presentations at engineering conferences throughout the US and numerous international locations.
Throughout his life he was a passionate fan of Oklahoma Sooners football and enjoyed woodworking. As a committed student of the Bible, he spent much of his time in study and teaching Sunday School classes at Metropolitan Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Judith Ann, and two sons, Jeffery of State College, PA, and Wesley, of Mustang, and five grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Bobby, of Prescott AZ.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 19, 2013, at Metropolitan Baptist Church, 7201 W. Britton Road, Oklahoma City, OK.
Memorial gifts may be made to Metropolitan Baptist Church in lieu of flowers.

I had the privilege of working with Benny early in my career. Always the teacher and gentleman, he made time to share his knowledge or lend a kind word of support. He touched my life and all those who knew him. A man whose faith was always in action.

The world has lost a great man, as the Lord has called one of his beloved to his side. Benny was a mentor to me both professionally and spiritually. I spent many hours with him discussing engineering issues, and Biblical principals. My thoughts are with Ann, Wes, and the rest of the family.

Benny Sharp was a great person and well liked and respected by everyone at the Oklahoma City Works. Benny was very intelligent and had several patents from his work in engineering at the Oklahoma City Works. Benny always had time to spend with his co-workers and always appreciated their help.
