Obituary

Berle K. Olson, 96, of Duluth, died Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at St. Luke's Hospice. He was born in Ladysmith, WI to Herman and Bessie (Coleman) Olson on July 19, 1916. Berle proudly served his country in the 3rd Army, 80th Division, 317th Regiment. He served in WWII with General Patton and received two purple hearts from him. During his life, Berle lived in Montana, Oregon, Washington, South Dakota, Wisconsin, and northern Minnesota. Berle K. Olson, 96, of Duluth, died Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at St. Luke's Hospice. He was born in Ladysmith, WI to Herman and Bessie (Coleman) Olson on July 19, 1916.

Berle proudly served his country in the 3rd Army, 80th Division, 317th Regiment. He served in WWII with General Patton and received two purple hearts from him. During his life, Berle lived in Montana, Oregon, Washington, South Dakota, Wisconsin, and northern Minnesota. He was employed by US Steel - Morgan Park Plant, Civil Conservation Corps and retired as foreman of West End Iron and Metal.
Berle was a member of the Grace Communion International Church. In his free time, Berle enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, gardening, playing shuffleboard with friends at the Norton Park Men's Club, and most of all spending time with his bride of 62 years and his family.

Berle is preceded in death by his wife, Helen (Yach); brothers, Donald and LaVerne; sister, Myrtle; and son in law, Lawrence Johnson.

Berle is survived by his daughter, Betty Johnson; grandsons, Randolph (Sherry) of Rochester, Kenneth (Karen) of Duluth, and Christopher of Duluth; and great grandchildren, Erik, Kristen (Matthew), Kara, Mary, Andrew, and Aaron. He is further survived by other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be Sunday, November 4, 2012 at 4 p.m. at Bell Brothers Funeral Home, 601 N. 56th Ave. W. Visitation two hours prior to service at the chapel. Committal will be at Sunrise Memorial Park with military honors accorded by Duluth Honor Guard for the immediate family following the service.
