BLUESTEIN,
Bernard, 93 of Delray Beach, Florida passed away on March 5, 2014. Bernard was born on September 11, 1920 in Brooklyn, New York to the late Benjamin and Fannie Bluestein. Bernard courageously served his country in the US Army from November of 1942 through his discharge in November of 1945. He was deployed to Central Europe in Normandy France 14 days after Day and volunteered to be a Forward Observer. He was awarded the American Service Medal, The European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal, A Good Conduct Medal, a Presidential Unit Citation, and World War II Victory Medal. Bernard was a graduate of Tilden High School in Brooklyn in 1938 and tough economic times forced him into the workplace immediately. After his service to our country he eventually developed a successful career in the Tile and Terrazzo industry as an expert Estimator for several different companies. He met his first true love, Ruth Saltzman in 1946, and they married on December 7, 1946 and were together for 54 years before Ruth passed on August 17, 2000 after a long illness. He continued to live in Florida and had the good fortune to meet his second true love, Donna Thaller, in 2002 at a bereavement group and they married in April of 2004. The second chapter of Bernard's life was filled with so much meaning and happiness. He became a mentor to young men from underprivileged families, became a bereavement counselor and group moderator and also visited senior men who needed assistance and a caring voice to talk with. Bernard leaves a legacy of love and a family who adored him. Surviving are his wife Donna, his children Sheila Tilly and Barry Bluestein from his first marriage to Ruth, his four adoring grandchildren, Mitch, Nicole, Jodi and Broderick and a host of friends and extended family. Funeral services will be held at the Gutterman Musicant Funeral Home, 402 Park Street in Hackensack, NJ at 10am, Sunday March 9th. In lieu of Flowers, the family requests that Donations in his memory can be made to Vitas Hospice, 1901 S Congress Avenue, Suite 420, Boynton Beach, FL 33426.
