Bernard T. Schenk, 87 of Lima passed away Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at 4:46 p.m. at St. Rita's Medical Center. He was born on November 27, 1925 in Lima to John Thomas and Marie (Mosgrove) Schenk they preceded him in death. On November 19, 1964 he married Patricia Cardone Bland and she passed away on June 20, 2007.
His survivors include his children, Kevin (Deb) Schenk of Lima, Tim (Lisa) Bland of Vancouver, WA, Jeff (Becky) Bland of Huntsville, OH George (Donna) Bland of Algonquin, IL and a daughter, Sara (Mike) Cramer of Arlington, TX.; his grandchildren, Stephanie (Greg) Hall, Tricia (Todd) Worley, Leah (Chad) Whitworth, Melissa Etzler, Chris Bland, Erika Bland, Renee (Fred) Wolford, Shannon (Keith) Lehker, Megan Schenk, Mallory Schenk, Lindsey (Brennan) Kelley, Auston (Brittany) Bland, Samantha Bland, Nick (Brittany) Bland and Ryan Bland; his great grandchildren, Jay Hall, Claire Hall, Michael Hall, Tatum Worley, Marley Etzler, Charlotte Wolford and Brayden Kelley.
He had also been predeceased by his siblings, Joseph Eugene Schenk, John Charles Schenk and Betty Schenk Zofkie.
Mr. Schenk was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church, he was a 1944 graduate of St. Gerard High School. He was also a WWII Navy veteran serving from 1944-1946. He had formerly been the owner/operator of Schenk Plumbing. He was an avid card player and had been a life member of the Lima VFW Post 1275. He was a former member of the Lost Creek Country Club where he loved to play golf, and had formerly been a member of the Lima Eagles.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 23, 2013 at St. Charles Catholic Church with Father Steve Blum as Celebrant. Burial will follow in Gethsemani Cemetery where there will be Military Graveside Rites conducted by the VFW Post 1275.
Visitation will be Friday, March 22, 2013 from 4-8 p.m. at Siferd-Orians Funeral Home.
