Bernard 'Bernie' Shepard, Jr., 73, of Indianapolis, passed away Wednesday February 17, 2016 in his home. Bernie was born in Indianapolis on June 7, 1942, the son of the late Bernard Shepard, Sr. and Margaret (Dunne Shepard) Gold. After graduating from Scecina High School in 1960, he served in the Air Force until 1962. On August 15, 1964 he married his wife of over 51 years, Rosalie 'Rosie' (McGloon) Shepard. Bernard 'Bernie' Shepard, Jr., 73, of Indianapolis, passed away Wednesday February 17, 2016 in his home. Bernie was born in Indianapolis on June 7, 1942, the son of the late Bernard Shepard, Sr. and Margaret (Dunne Shepard) Gold. After graduating from Scecina High School in 1960, he served in the Air Force until 1962. On August 15, 1964 he married his wife of over 51 years, Rosalie 'Rosie' (McGloon) Shepard. Bernie graduated from Butler University with a B.S. in accounting in 1966.
Bernie started his own accounting firm, Dunbar, Cook and Shepard in 1974. He has always had a heart for service. He was an original member of the Scecina Board of Directors. In 1969, he joined the Eastside Sertoma Club. He served as president from 1975-1976. He received Sertoman of the Year in 1983 and 1984.
Bernie was a member of Hillcrest Country Club. He was also an avid bridge player at the Indianapolis Bridge Center. He enjoyed watching Notre Dame football games, Butler basketball games and spending time with his family and friends.
Bernie was survived by his loving family: wife, Rosie Shepard; three children: Thomas (Gloria) Shepard, Timothy (Amal) Shepard and Julie (Roderick) Hughes; brother, John (Linda) Shepard; two sisters, Marilyn Fillenwarth and Peggy (Jimmie) Kennedy and six grandchildren: Aidan, Clare, Mary, Naomi, Bridget and Lydia Hughes. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Kay Wildey.
Friends may call on Friday, February 19, 2016 from 4:00-8:00 pm with a time of sharing at 7:30 pm at Feeney-Hornak Keystone Mortuary. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at 11:00am at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Interment follows at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial Contributions may be made to Scecina Memorial High School or to the Camp Sertoma Fund.
