Bernard F. Sullivan, "Bernie," age 87, formerly of Fall River, passed away Monday, May 13, 2013 in Somerset Ridge Nursing Center. Born in Fall River, a son of the late John J. and Mary A. (Gillespie) Sullivan, he was a longtime resident of the city.
He attended B.M.C. Durfee High School and was a Veteran of the United States Army having served during the Korean War. He was City Councilor from 1966 to 1970, worked for the Fall River Housing Authority, and started his radio career at W.A.L.E. as a news reporter retiring from W.S.A.R. He also worked at a Chemist Tech at Ciba-Geigy Chemical Corporation for many years.
A member of the American Legion and the AM Vets, he was the recipient of the Isaiah Avila Award and received numerous commendations from the city of Fall River. He was also a communicant of St. Joseph's Church.
He is survived by two sisters; Joan M. Harrington of Somerset, Patricia A. Johnston of St. Louis, MO and several nieces and nephews. He was brother of the late John F. Sullivan, Margaret T. Perry and Claire A. Charest.
The family would like to gratefully acknowledge the staff at Somerset Ridge Center for their kind expression of love and concern for Bernie. They will never forget all that you have done for them.
Private services are in the care of the Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Cherry Place. Contributions in his honor may be made to the Somerset Ridge Activities Fund, 455 Brayton Ave., Somerset, MA 02726.

Bernie married my husband and me in Norton MA in 1967. He was so kind to me while giving me my "instructions" in the Catholic church. I have wonderful memories of his dealings with high schoolers of all faiths of which I was one.

I worked with Bernie at WALE and WSAR back in the 1990's. I learned a lot from Bernie and was always thankful that he would go out of his way to help me. You are in a better place now, my friend. God bless you and your family.
