My beloved mother, Bernese McCauley, passed away April 2, 2010 in Spokane. She was married to my father, Phil, for 61 years - he passed away 7 years ago; finally, she will be with her husband and our Lord. Mrs. McCauley was a vibrant member of Spokane Valley society, active in the Daughters of the Nile, the Spokane Yacht Club, and bridge. She is survived by her daughter, Susan Akre, two sisters, four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Services will be held at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home, 1400 S. Pines Rd., on Saturday, April 17th at 10 a.m.

What a lucky girl I was to have had her as a grandmother. Bacon and pancakes never smelled so good as they did coming out of her kitchen, I swear! And fresh strawberry & rhubarb pies, raspberry preserves, a penchant for a good game of cards, and a lifelong love of animals - she taught me so much, and I miss her "hi, doll" voice already.

Bernie was a wonderful neighbor. She was a good friend to us and to our dogs, who all loved her. We will miss her so much. Condolences to all her family.
