Bernice Stanley Ford, 82, passed away on August 4 at Wesley Long Hospital after several months of declining health. Mr. Ford was born June 4, 1932 in Person County North Carolina to Mary Bessie Fuquay Ford and Thomas Hunter Ford. His parents and 11 siblings preceded him in death. He is survived by his children Kenneth (Jill) of Oak Ridge, Tracy (Jim) Harrison of Charlotte, their mother Barbara Swicegood Ford and grandchildren Ian Ford of Winston Salem and Madeleine and McIntyre Harrison of Charlotte. Bernice Stanley Ford, 82, passed away on August 4 at Wesley Long Hospital after several months of declining health. Mr. Ford was born June 4, 1932 in Person County North Carolina to Mary Bessie Fuquay Ford and Thomas Hunter Ford. His parents and 11 siblings preceded him in death. Mr. Ford is also survived by his brother Arthur Ford of Graham, NC and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Ford was reared in Caswell and Person counties and graduated from Bartlett Yancey High School in Yanceyville, NC, in 1952. He served in the US Air Force from 1952-1956 and was a Greensboro police officer from 1956-1986. Following his retirement from the police force, he continued to work for a number of years, including several years at Piedmont Triad International Airport. He was a member of Revolution Lodge #552 for 39 years and was also a Shriner. Family was of great importance to Mr. Ford, and he took great joy in spending time with his children, grandchildren, siblings, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for Mr. Ford will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. at Hanes Lineberry Funeral Home, 515 N. Elm St., Greensboro with a reception to follow.
The family wishes to express deep gratitude and appreciation to Lindsay Medaloni, Lametrice Cousar, Danielle Webster and the other staff of PruittHealth Hospice for their excellent, compassionate and loving care during Mr. Ford's final months.
