Bernice Voorhees Reimer Bernice Mary Voorhees Reimer, 93, died June 15, 2014, in Savannah, GA, due to age related causes. Bernice was born September 17, 1920 to Laura Edith (Young) Voorhees and Manly Leroy Voorhees at Wessington Springs, Jerauld, SD. She married Ernest Reimer January 11, 1943 and they started their farming life together in the Wessington Springs, SD area. In 1947, they moved to a farm northwest of Woonsocket, SD. Bernice Mary Voorhees Reimer, 93, died June 15, 2014, in Savannah, GA, due to age related causes. Bernice was born September 17, 1920 to Laura Edith (Young) Voorhees and Manly Leroy Voorhees at Wessington Springs, Jerauld, SD. She married Ernest Reimer January 11, 1943 and they started their farming life together in the Wessington Springs, SD area. In 1947, they moved to a farm northwest of Woonsocket, SD. A few years later they bought a house in Woonsocket, remodeled it and that became their home for many years. In 2000, she and Ernest moved to Savannah, GA to live with their daughter and son-in-law, Burl Womack.

Bernice was an accomplished homemaker. And, also worked outside her home at the Woonsocket Bakery, Corner Café, cooked at the Woonsocket Public School, and sold Avon for many years. As a young woman, she started working in long term nursing and then spent the last seven years of her working career in long term care nursing as a med-aid at the Storla Sunset Home.

Bernice has been an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints since 1959. Through the years she served in various teaching positions in her church and is a member of the Relief Society, the female organization of the church. Bernice spent many years researching family genealogy. She was an avid reader, loved music, especially hymns, and was a whiz at story-telling and reciting poetry.

Survivors are: her daughter, Delores of Savannah, GA; three grandchildren: Donald (Kathy) Watts, of Peoria, AZ, James (Sherry) Watts, of Charlotte, NC and Cindy (Ralph) Ezzell of Willard, NC; four great grandchildren and three great-great grandsons.

Preceding her in death was her husband, Ernest in 2006; her parents; a baby sister, Doris; her two brothers: Kenneth and Harold Voorhees; two half-brothers: Orval and Verle Voorhees and three nephews and one niece.

Pallbearers will be Bernice's nephews: Lester, Jerry, Roger, Fred, Donnie and Brian Voorhees.

The funeral will be Saturday, June 21, 2014 at 11 AM at the Basham Funeral Home in Wessington Springs with visitation one hour prior to the service. Brother Allen Barton, of the Huron Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, will officiate.

Interment will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Wessington Springs, SD.
