Bernie attended Georgetown High School. He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army medical corps during WWII. During the war he met the love of his life, Itha Johnson After WWII he enrolled and graduated from Texas A & M University. Bernie and Itha settled in San Antonio during the 50’s. It was in San Antonio where they became active members in the Baptist Church, and Bernie became a deacon. Later they moved to Wichita Falls, Texas, where he worked at Sheppard Air Force Base. Bernie and Itha finally settled in Seagoville, Texas, where he worked for the Federal Bureau of Prisons in Seagoville as a Unit Case Manager. When he was 40 he attended East Texas State University and earned his Master’s Degree in Guidance and Counseling. After retiring from the Federal Government, he worked for the State Department of Human Resources. He was active in the Calvary Baptist Church until his passing.
